2.25" or 2.5" muffler?

I have the Borla XR-1 40941 installed on mine.
its 2.5 in and out
took the guy at the shop about 30 minutes to install with the new pipes

I got a 2.5" Borla also, but only because they didn't have a 2.25" option. I am going to replace my Borla soon, and will have the option of 2.25" or 2.5". I know both will work, but is there any benefit of one over the other? I will not be doing the work myself, so the ease of installing the 2.5" because it just slides over the stock pipe, is not a benefit. I am concerned more about the performance or sound of one over the other.

Hey everyone I need some help !!!! Lol for the people who changed their pipes and muffler to 2.5 in did you gain any hp or gas mileage ? Did you loose any ? And what about the people who slid muffler over stock pipes any difference ? Lmk thank you Cody

I have the 2.5" magnaflow. Paid a shop to install it (I don't have a welder) while I stood and watched.

He slid it right in over the other pipes, welded around, and it was done. 20 minutes.

i think i'm going with the same one 18" magnaflow. How much did they charge you for install?

I've had lot's of exhausts welded up and usually 15 dollars at my local muffler shop if I can't get it in the shop at work. Takes 15-20 minutes for them to sawzall/torch off the old muffler, bell the inlet/outlet on the new muffler to slip over the stock piping and maybe weld a new hanger up or some new pipe depending on how yours looks. Very quick and easy for a shop with a lift to weld on a muffler. Can't see it costing more than $25 unless you need some new pipe or they have a minimum charge or something.
