Thought I would share a 2,500 mile review of my 2013 SR5. So far, I love it! It rides smooth and eats up the miles like a champ. I’m averaging about 18 ½ miles to the gallon. Pretty much what I expected for the mix of highway and back roads.
I’ve taken it on one road trip so far; to the Berkshires and Adirondacks including the baseball hall of fame. If you like baseball, I recommend checking it out. Will probably take it to Montreal this summer, maybe for Jazz Fest. Also plan to take it on lots of ski trips this coming winter. Every winter actually!
I’ve read others’ reviews of the brakes being touchy and the nose diving and the lack of power. I don’t get that at all. I haven’t noticed the brakes being anything other than good (luckily haven’t had to do an emergency stop or anything). Can’t say I’ve noticed the nose diving either. As for the power, I like it. It gets up and goes pretty well. I don’t slam on the gas leaving a light or toll booth or highway entrance, but it’ll get up to speed in no time. I guess it’s all in our frames of reference. I had a 2006 Wrangler for 7 years and will admit it was slow, didn’t have great brakes and rode like a rented mule. But, I really enjoyed it, especially with the top down.
I like all the features of the truck. When I open the moonroof, I generally put the back window down some to allow the air to pass through. The radio sounds nice. Never considered XM before, but during this trial period I find myself listening to it a lot. Might have to subscribe when the time runs out. Didn’t buy the nav, figured my garmin and phone are good devices so I didn’t see the need in it. The seats are very comfortable, and the driving position is quite good. All of the passengers I’ve had have commented on how comfortable it is. The Bluetooth works well. Haven’t taken it off road, but I suspect it will do well and if not, will buy new tires. My only gripe is the radio display. Can’t see a damn thing with sunglasses on.
Anyway, I’m enjoying the T4R and this forum. You guys are a great and knowledgeable bunch. I’m glad to have an other vehicle that most of the owners really enjoy driving instead of using it as an appliance like an accord or camry or sonata or malibu or whatever have you.
Have to admit, I kinda miss the Jeep wave.
