20 inch wheels on LIMITED

I keep mine set @41-44 psi, this range seems to allow for the best handling performance/comfort compromise.

How long have you been running them in that range? Any issues with tread wear? I've been running my LTX MS/2s around 35 psi for the past 25k, not really sure what our acceptable range is.

I've been running them in that range since they were installed @3,100 miles. No tire pres. issues, only an alignment (toe-in/out) at 10,500; 1,000 miles ago: now @11,600.

EDIT: There's a pressure range on the sidewall: "Max pres. 44 PSI, Min pres. 32 PSI" IIRC.

Not sure if anyone else is interested in the TRD center caps for the 20" Limited wheels, but I just had to buy four of them to replace the original caps that were STOLEN from my truck in my [supposedly] secure garage in my condo building. I took a chance and ordered these, though they aren't specifically designated for the 20" wheels. They fit perfectly, and they look great against the black/machined 20" Limited wheels.

The part # is PTR20-35111-BK. I ordered them from toyotaonlineparts.com, which I found to have the best price. Shipping was super fast. Parts are authentic, as far as I can tell (they shipped from McGeorge Toyota in Richmond VA and the packaging was all Toyota). Based on this purchase, I can highly recommend this site. Humm wonder of these will also work on a set of the 17 trail wheels. Thats if i pick up a set of 17; i would be power coating them black. I still on the fence on staying 20 or going to the the 17s

Do the new tires rub on the wheel wells?

To be honest, I really can't tell much of a difference between the stockers and the TGs on both ride quality and noise and I've driven them at about 80mph on the highway.

Stock tires are done after 90K. Looking at options. We don't offroad and are on dirt roads once in a while for camping. Looking at the Continental LX20 and the Michelin Premier LTX. LTX is a new tire. Does anyone have any experience with it?

No experience with the LTX, but I had great luck with Michelin Cross Terrains on my old '03. The LTX looks like a good tire.

I'm leaning towards the new Michelin Premiere LTX tires for my 2011 Limited. Any insights into the following:

Snow performance? Wet & dry traction, including in cold weather looks to be class-leading based on the original set of reviews, but unfortunately, there aren't any reviews about snow performance yet. Any one have any experience with these yet in the snow?

245/60/R20 or 275/55/R20? The Premiere LTX's come in a 245/60/R20 size (official tire size for the 4R Limited's 20-inch wheels), but I've been considering the larger 275/55/R20 size that so many people on this forum have switched too. Why? They look nicer, are easier to find at a local tire shop, and have a larger contact patch because of the increased width. However, I'm concerned that the 7-inch wide rim on my Limited is half an inch narrower then the minimum 7.5 inch wheel specs listed for the 275/55/R20 tires. I haven't read/heard of any problems people have had going up a size to 275/55/R20, but if there ever was an issue (accident, blowout, etc) I'm worried insurance could blame it on the non-compliant tire size (even if it wasn't the real cause).

Thoughts please?

So after driving over 500 km on city streets, highways, windy country roads, gravel roads I've come to a verdict.

I guess the best place to start is to talk about the tires I used previously. I had the stock Yokohama Geolandar G96B tires in P245/60R20. They had about 45% trend remaining so they were still in pretty good shape. I can only compare the Coopers against these tires because its all I know.

New Tires: Cooper Discoverers AT/W 275/55/R20

Handling
The Coopers are definitely better in the handling department. I feel more in control while driving at high speeds, easier to keep the car straight and while turning the tires hold the road very well. There's this stretch of highway I always drive, the speed limit is 110 km/h, its downhill, there's a bend in the road and I usually gas it to get momentum for the upcoming hill. With the Yokahomas I always felt uneasy driving this stretch, I always felt the car was on the brink of rolling over. Doing this same stretch with the Coopers felt much better, felt comfortable the entire way.

Gravel Roads
This was a massive difference. The Yokahamas totally suck at gravel roads, I normally drive around 60 km/h cause anymore I feel the car loses too much traction (speed limit 80 km/h). I was driving comfortably at 80 km/h and felt I could do another 10 km/h no problem. Another difference was the comfort of the ride, it was very smooth, surprisingly smooth (this could be due to the higher speed 60 km/h vs 80km/h). Bottom line the Coopers performed much better than the Yokahamas.

Mileage
So far the mileage from the Coopers seems to be the same or better than the Yokahamas, which is kind of surprising considering its 245 vs 275. The difference could to me driving differently, breaking less going into turns or because my tire pressure wasn't optimal before. So if you are worried about the fuel economy of the 275s don't be cause there doesn't seem to be much of a difference.


Noise
The Coopers are definitely a lot quieter than the Yokohamas, my girlfriend and I both noticed this right away. While driving in the 80 km/h - 120 km/h range we were able to listen to music at a comfortable level. We normally have to blast the stereo to hear anything.

Turns were a huge difference the Yokohamas seem to squeal all the time, even in the easiest turns. Haven't heard a peep from the Coopers yet.

So that's my limited review of the tires. I wish I could have reviewed them in the rain but it never rained over the weekend. I expect these tires to perform superbly much better than the Yokohamas. I've had some scary hydroplaning moments with the Yokohamas and because of that made the change. Well hope this helps someone out. I'll keep updating after some milestones.

I'm sold, 275/55R20's going on the limited ASAP.

275/65/20 DuraTracs

I'm guessing the 3" lift is an absolute requirement to get 275/65R20's to fit.. that's a lot of tire to try to fit with just the spacers.

Just an FYI for everyone thinking that 275/55R20 is ok to run on the stock 20"x7" wheels because Discount Tire said so...the Discount Tire in Tempe, AZ told me that there wouldn't be any worry about with a 275/60R20 Michelin M/S2 fitting on the stock wheels too. I disagreed, came home and found that Michelin only specs the tire to fit 7.5"-9" Wheels (LTX M/S2 | Michelin Tires).

As for approved 275/55R20 tires on the stock 20" wheels, it would be nice to know how much testing has been done with this setup.

discount tire wont mount a 275/55R20 on the stock limited wheels due to the 7" width.. talked to the manager and got shot down. now have to pay a little more for a smaller shop to do the work.
