20 inch wheels on LIMITED

I'm guessing the 3" lift is an absolute requirement to get 275/65R20's to fit.. that's a lot of tire to try to fit with just the spacers.

Got these installed yesterday. Let's see how they work out. If you don't hear from me ever again then it's probably a good bet that the 275/55/R20s were not a good idea. :lookout:

I'm leaning towards the new Michelin Premiere LTX tires for my 2011 Limited. Any insights into the following:

Snow performance? Wet & dry traction, including in cold weather looks to be class-leading based on the original set of reviews, but unfortunately, there aren't any reviews about snow performance yet. Any one have any experience with these yet in the snow?

245/60/R20 or 275/55/R20? The Premiere LTX's come in a 245/60/R20 size (official tire size for the 4R Limited's 20-inch wheels), but I've been considering the larger 275/55/R20 size that so many people on this forum have switched too. Why? They look nicer, are easier to find at a local tire shop, and have a larger contact patch because of the increased width. However, I'm concerned that the 7-inch wide rim on my Limited is half an inch narrower then the minimum 7.5 inch wheel specs listed for the 275/55/R20 tires. I haven't read/heard of any problems people have had going up a size to 275/55/R20, but if there ever was an issue (accident, blowout, etc) I'm worried insurance could blame it on the non-compliant tire size (even if it wasn't the real cause).

Thoughts please?

I'm having the Michelin Premier LTX 245/60/20's installed today. It's the best tire available for the 20 inch Limited wheels. I much prefer the 275/55/20's, but finally decided it's just not right for me to put other people at risk like this. Even if the risk is small. Don't mean to be a downer, but I hope this influences other's decisions. It's not just about your safety, but the safety of others (passengers, pedestrians, other drivers...). Style isn't more important than life & limb. Right? If larger tires (AS or AT) are that important to you, then get wider wheels. Bottom line. If you don't want to spend the extra cash on new rims, then make the responsible decision and be compliant with your tire size choice.

Stock tires are done after 90K. Looking at options. We don't offroad and are on dirt roads once in a while for camping. Looking at the Continental LX20 and the Michelin Premier LTX. LTX is a new tire. Does anyone have any experience with it?

I drove in the rain this week and purposefully drove through some puddles to see how well the LTX's dispersed water. I could barely detect the puddles as I drove through them; these tires cut right through them. I'm hoping the snow performance is acceptable.

It's clear to me that the Premiere LTX's are best A/S tires available in the 245/60/20 tire size.

Taking the plunge tomorrow to switch to 17" Trail Edition rims and BFG KO2 in 275/70R17s. It was a tough decision for me as I really like the style of the stock 20" rims. Finally opted to go for the bigger sidewall for off-roading. I will also be getting Bilstein 6112s set at 2" on the fronts and 5160s on the rear with SAW 1.5" springs.

Swapped out the stock 20" wheels for BFG KO2 275/70R17 today. There is very very minor rubbing on the driver side front with driver side locked towards the right, but nothing on the passenger side front. The rubbing is not enough to hear, but you can see where the tire touches the front fender lining while turning. I can move the liner forward, but to be honest, it's not even a concern since it is so minor. Also, I will get my lift next week so it may not even be an issue. With the radio off, you can hear slightly more road noise than stock but nothing to bother me and obviously expected due to the more aggressive thread pattern. I drove the car at 85 miles an hour on the freeway and there is no vibration whatsoever. Overall I am pleased with the tire choice.

Pictures are below. You will notice a slight sag in the back, partially due to the surface of the parking lot and also cause I have the 4 old rims/tires inside (plus the 3rd row). In the before picture, I have the new tires in the back so that is not stock height either.

I got a pretty good deal from Discount Tire on Black Friday for some 275/55/20 BFG A/T KO2s and finally got them installed today. So far there is no noticeable rubbing on stock suspension. The ride back to my house was not that loud and not that bumpy compared to the stock tires. I have yet to drive at highways speeds, but will try it this weekend. Overall I'm satisfied with them and they look great.

We don't have DD here in VA, so I ordered from them via online and had them installed at a local tire shop. Yours look great on the TE wheels.

Thanks, I like yours too and its good to see the comparison. I actually bought the exact same tire size you did when 4 Wheel Parts had their sale a few months ago. I liked the stock 20" rims so much and I wanted to save money. It was a really hard decision to move to the 17's and I spent many hours going back and forth. I eventually returned the 275/55/20s and went the 17" route since I was upgrading the suspension and wanted the taller sidewalls for more aggressive offroad stuff.

Knowing me, my rig will be a mall crawler and I will just be a poser!

I ordered them, but I'm second guessing them becouse they are rated E tires

I am guessing you might have rubbing. A 265/60/20 (32.52" diameter) is wider than the 275/70/17s (32.16" diameter) that I switched to. The good news is that they are rated for the 20x7 limited tire and places like DT won't give you any hassle when mounting them. Just be prepared to make some liner mods.

Please post your actual results if you get them mounted.

I went with 275 55 20 but I should of gone with the 60 , I have more than enough clearance for it
