2000 4runner headlight diagram

If you unplug the DRL resistor behind the battery and try to work the headlamps; what happens? I unplugged my DRL resistor to just have a normal headlamp system because I was blowing bulbs every six months. (it's been a year and a half and I haven't blown a bulb since.) The system will continue to operate just like a 4Runner w/o DRL's with this unplugged. It may help you in diagnosing the problem to take that variable out of the system.

drl resistor behind the battery? the little black box on the fender? mine is unplugged but the black box is gone lol..bought the truck like this...im an idiot n never checked the lights before purchase. seller didnt notify me either oh well now its my problem

ok gonna check this a little later, fkn raining dammit. also I noticed this yesterday while I had my dash apart looking for anything unusual, I had the headlights working per ebrake method u gave me, and I pushed the headlight switch forward to active the high beams, and nothing happened. the highs only come on when I pull the switch towards me, if I push them with the lights on nothing happens

Hmmm, this tells me that in high beam mode, you are not getting a ground to terminal 2 of the diode #1 at D12, which is leaving you stuck in DRL mode. The Flash mode provides this ground straight from the stalk and that makes it work. If you can 1) confirm the absence of that ground at the diode in HIGH mode, and,2) if absent, provide a short to ground and see what that does, we will be much closer to a diagnosis.

so besides the plug you unplugged, does that box go into anywhere else? i dont need it for inspection here, i just need them to flick on with the switch lol. thanks tho.

Nope. It is simply a resistor with a heat sink to dissipate the heat from knocking the voltage down for the DRL's. If you look at the plug, it only has two wires; one in, one out.
