That's what I'm talkin 'bout! Looks sweet! He even has that red pinstripe... Have u thought about Plasti-dip? It's cheap and if u decide u don't like it or want to change colors, it just peels off.

I'll ask dad if we can try the plasti-dip. What kind of prep work is needed?

Nothing really. Just make sure they're clean and free of any grease/oil. Check out YouTube. Tons of vids. An added benefit is that it will protect the original finish.

Well, I have wanted pretty much any of Toyota this past year or two (4Runners, 4x4s, Tacomas, Supras, MR2s, Matrixes, Scion TCs, Celicas...), and I am interested in Yarises now. They are fairly cheap they can get 40 MPG, they are simple, have manual windows, and I like my friend's '07 Yaris(even though his is an automatic). If I were to get one, I would get a 2 door hatchback model with a 5 speed transmission. Even though the tiny 1.5L 4-cyl only makes 106 HP, my goal is to get the weight as close to one ton as possible. If I get one, I will remove the wheel covers, engine cover(s), rear bench seat, floor mats in the back, rear privacy shield, rear hatch cover, all rear interior plastics, spare tire cover, and anything else I can. In order to balance out the weight, I might move some things from the front to the back like the jack and any tools. Just wanted to get my thoughts out.

Here would be a perfect one for me if it didn't have a salvage title (the hood doesn't line up so I know it was wrecked pretty bad)

Small update, I changed the oil after almost 6 months, bled the clutch, cleaned all the spilt oil off the back of the engine, and greased the shift linkages. Greasing the linkages made a huge difference- made it easier to shift and made the awful squeals go away. I recommend anyone with a manual FWD car to do that.

Please tell me you're not interested in a Yaris anymore. I wouldn't let my sons drive one of those deathtraps. What about a 96-04 Tacoma? Single cab, 4-banger, 5-spd., 2wd? My boy is looking at these. They're cheap and plentiful since Toyota made a s-load of these.

Yes, I am still looking for a yaris. They have pretty good safety ratings- way better than an old Toyota truck/ 4runner. Who knows, a roll cage would look cool in a yaris .

I hadn't seen this thread before. That's a great car. For high school it's fantastic. It's hard to believe it's 14 years old. All I got in high school was a 40hp but mint condition '64 VW.

I do love it! People always think it's like 2010 or newer. The funniest comment i get is:

them "Hey, is it a v6 or v8?"
me "It's a 4-cylinder"

There is also an awful squeak from the serpentine belt area when the engine is cold. It goes away after about a mile of driving. I am not sure if it is the belt or a pulley. It goes away if you put tension on the tensioner by pushing on it. Any ideas?

I'm still looking for a car...

Looked at a sweet 2005 Scion tC this week, but we didn't get it cause some guy offered more than we were willing to pay. I am searching for the right: 7th gen Celica GT-S, Yaris, 1st gen Scion tC, 1st gen Matrix xR and xR-S, or Supra. It sure does seem hard to find a decent condition manual Toyota around here for cheap.

I found a Yaris!
As long as my dad doesn't change his mind :boom:, he is going to offer 4 grand.

Here are some pictures:








It does need a lot of work though...
It is very dirty- engine bay, door jams, interior
The clearcoat on the roof is peeling off, so I could do a white roof or something like that
It needs a waxing- badly
All the fluids need to be changed
The brake rotors need to be turned
The rear drums need to be checked for pad life
Needs new wiper blades all around
A clip on the front bumper is broken, so I will have to take off the bumper and screw it on somehow
It's about time for new spark plugs
It has a half removed alarm system and has wires running through every interior panel
It has some crap sport pedals- easy to take off though
It has those crap door ding protector things- one of them is gone with glue left on the door
The wheels need to be scrubbed because the stainless steel rings on them are yellowish- gray
It needs new lug nuts
It needs some stock tail lights


With all that, the good things are that I like it, it drives awesome, has never been wrecked, all body panels line up correctly and are original, and the engine and transmission are smooth.

The car has it's own Facebook page called "Simon's Gay Yellow Car." The best part of the series is how foul mouthed the teenagers are.

The Celica is my dad's mid life crisis car from 9 years ago and he doesn't want to give it to me anymore. He's afraid that if he gives it to me, he won't be able to afford another car as nice as the Celica. Also, my big bass cabinet doesn't fit in the back of the Celica because the hatch it too short. They would rather me get a Scion tC, but I honestly think the Yaris drives better. Even though the Yaris cost a lot less than a tC when they were new, the tC just felt really cheap to me compared to the Yaris.

That video is pretty bad... lol
