2000 Limited headlight stalk vs 2001 SR5 headlight stalk

I have a 2000 limited and an 01 SR5.
I removed the OEM fog lights from the limited as they were not hooked up and running when I bought the car and put it on my 01 SR5. For now they are just mounted and not connected at the light as I'm waiting to do the switch wiring first.

My 01 has DRLs but the 2000 does not.
My 01 has a regular headlight stalk without the fog selector while the 2000 limited has the fog selector on its stalk.

I've looked up the wiring instructions and my question is this: I was planning to install another switch in the dash, but instead can I just swap the stalks and be good to go?

Will the DRLs still work as before on my 01?

I was pretty sure DRLs were standard on 00 Limiteds--mine has them, annoying as they are.

So, assuming everything else with the fog lights work correctly, I should just be able to swap the stalks put and be ready to go?

Or will there be additional wiring necessary?

I'm not sure in this situation, but Toyota does not build lots of wiring harnesses. Meaning, a different harness for a limited or an sr5 or one with all the whistles and bells to bone stock

my 2000 has wiring for things not even installed and never were installed from the factory
for example, all the wiring is under the car for fog lights, but I don't have fog lights
I bet it is similar for the stalk, I bet the plug connections are there

but you could always go to someplace like camelback and see if there are other harnesses

I think '99 was the only year that was different so you should be able to swap (maybe check part #s online to make sure). Take the fog relay from the limited also, shouldn't be any additional wiring.

The DRL changes how the stalk is used, but it doesn't change the part. All '99+ seem to have the fog wires, including my '99 SR5 with no fogs. You will need the new stalk, the relay and fuse.

I'm surprised, though, I thought 2000 was the year all North American 4Runners got DRLs. Are you sure it's MY 2000? What month was it built (label on door jamb)?

I didn't think about the relay. I may leave it and buy a new relay.

Like I said, I'm going to swap the lever from my 00 limited to my 01 SR5. No cost.
Got a price from the dealer on the relay...$72 my arse. Went to autozone and paid $18.

I'll plug it in tonight. I have no idea if the fog lights work or not. They were not hooked up when I bought the 00 limited. PO had big round Hellas on the brush guard hooked up.

^^^ That'll work if they both have (or don't have) DRL's - there may be a difference in how the DRLs work with a non-DRL stalk. It'll be interesting to see the results.

Mine was easy... I just added factory (style) fog lights to my '99 using a Solara (non-DRL) fog-light-equipped headlight stalk. All plug-n-play.

I have the same stalk on my 03 camry, crazy how it's designed to allow you to turn the drl off on this stalk yet not on 4runners' stock stalks!

Alrighty, got the stalks swapped and the relay installed. Turn the ignition on, turn the headlights on, turn the fog light to on.....no dice.

Later today I will take the fog light out and check the bulbs....why didn't I do that before? I dunno.

The headlights on both vehicles work as before, so no issues there.

Yep. It actually already had a 15a fuse in it. I pulled the fuse from the 00, but the 01 already had one.

I'm going to check the bulb.
If it were a ceiling fan I would have checked the bulb before pulling the breaker......doh!

Alright, I took the fog light assembly out. The bulbs are out. So, it calls for 55w bulbs. Can I got to 100w bulbs without issue?

Will I get a brighter light?

So, word of wisdom: If you're installing or swapping out old bulbs, use some PB blaster on the small screws that open to expose the bulb.

Broke one off reinstalling today. And on the other fog light I stripped one (or have come very close to stripping one).

I'll have to go buy some replacement screws.
