2000 Limited Starting Issues

New to the board. I have a 2000 Limited with this "Identity" fob that I guess tells the engine its ok to turn over. In the past I have had a couple of cases where the battery would run down and wouldn't give a strong signal to engine causing it not to start every time. Usually a new battery fixes the problem.

Lately I have been having an issue where it doesn't want to turnover unless the steering wheel is jerked either left or right. I have seen posts where the wheel would sometimes get stuck in the locked position making it hard or impossible to turn the key. This is not the case with mine. Usually just a little pressure to one side while turning the key does the trick, but lately I have been having to put a lot more force into it and often time it will take 3, 4 or 5 key turns to get it to start. Also, the "Identity" fob has a fresh battery in it, so I don't think that is the problem.

Any ideas?
