2002 4runner won't start, not contacts

Hi everyone, I bought a '02 4runner about a month ago. Since then I have been working on doing the preventative maint.

A couple weeks ago I got the standard problem of the "click" when you turn the key. Pulled the starter, cleaned it, put it back and it's been starting fine. Yesterday went to start it any it turns over, but never catches. I've tried starting it several times with the same result.

I replaced the fuel filter - no start
Replaced plugs and wires - no start
Switched the EFI relay with the one next to it - no start

It IS getting spark, but still nothing.

Any ideas?

Well, the messy for sure way would be to just disconnect the high pressure fuel line and see if there's fuel in there, but I would start by looking at the fuel pump under the driver's side rear passenger seat. Pull up the seat and carpet, and open the inspection port. You could test the voltage across the pump and feel/listen to see if the pump is actually working or not.
 
So I thought I heard it pump once, but the other times I couldn't hear anything. I'm gonna go buy a multimeter.

Also tried the bang on the tank method to no avail.
 
you can get a fuel pressure tester. you just need to disconnect the fuel line where it goes into the fuel rail, and you install the fuel pressure guage there. Before you go tearing into a fuel pump replacement, try this. Since you are sure that you are getting spark, and you motor is turning over, its got to be a fuel problem then
 
So I replaced the fuel pump today and still nothing. I checked the power going into the pump 5v on one lead and 5v on another lead (3 prong cable)

I think I was wrong earlier though. I only get 1 spark after cranking like 5-7 seconds. So I guess it's an ignition problem after all. Going to test the ignition coils and plugs wires and go from there.
 
So I've checked and it's not throwing a code. I checked the resitance of the ignition coils and the spark plugs and they are within spec.

I'm going to check resistance at the MAF (just for chits and giggles) as well as the resistance at the camshaft and crankshaft sensors and see what that gets me.
 
Timing belt? Had an Escort throw a timing belt and took me days to check everything and it was the belt. Fortunately on the Escort I could see the timing belt slightly without removing anything.
 
to bad on the 4runners you have to pull all your accessory belts and then remove your timing cover to see if that was the instance, but kind of doubt it being the issue but if it is there is a high chance of head damage due to it being an interference motor
 
I thought the 3.4 WAS a non interferance motor?! I wonder how hard it would be just to pull the plastic cover back to see if it was still intact?

That's what I thought. I guess the easiest way to determine if it was the timing belt would be to check and see if you have fire going to the plugs, right?! He said he drove it and then it just wouldn't start afterwards. I haven't heard of a belt breaking while it wasn't under power. Seems to me like the issue is somewhere else.

I inspected the timing belt the other day. Tension seemed fine and it wasn't loose so no breaks in it. Saw a sticker in the cab saying it was replaced at 140x,xxx (has 166k now).

I just checked the resistance of the MAF per FSM and it was 4.03 kohms (it's 45 F here) That seems about in line with the FSM guidelines (2.2 or so at 68F or 16-18 @ 4F).
I also tried to check the voltage of the MAF, but it was going to be a ***** to get out of the tube and I think it's fine because the resistance seems ok.

I'm going to recheck to see if I'm getting spark then try to check the camshaft and crankshaft sensors.
