Hi all,
My 03 4Runner 2WD V8 just reached 90k miles. I know it's called for timing belt replacement. My questions are:

- What other items I should replace while replacing the timing belt? I know water pump is one.

- Drive belts? Any bearings that need to be replaced (just out of precaution) while doing the timing belt and water pump?

- What kind of $$$ am I looking at, approximately?

Thank you very much for any inputs.

I thought all V8s were AWD?

I was quoted $1500 for pump and belt at my dealership.

Would get the tensioner and idler pulley in addition to the water-pump. I am referring to the tensioner and idler that are for the timing belt. I wouldn't worry about the external idler and tensioner as they are easy to replace comparatively. The goal is to have nothing under t-belt cover fail as that's very serious and labor intensive to fix.

No, not all V8 are AWD. Mine is 2WD.

Thanks for the suggestions of tensioner and idler pulleys. I didn't know.
$1500 just for the timing belt and water pump? That's steep! With tensioner and idler I guess it'll come out $2000...

My local stealer has a special $299 timing belt replacement on V6 and $399 (i think) for V8. Not too bad really! The pump, timing belt, and all other belts were around $500 on my 3rd gen when I had them done last year.

I would absolutely seek out a private shop that specializes in Lexus and Toyota. It should less than half that IMHO. By less than a thousand I mean $400-$700 not $999.

Thanks for the comments.

I just called LONGO toyota here in SoCal and I was quoted $840 + tax for the timing belt, water pump, tensioner, idler, drive belts.

The 1GR V6 is a timing chain.....

Yep. I was referring to the price for V8. I listed both for comparison. $399 isn't that bad IMO if you aren't able to do it yourself. But at $1500, I would consider it. My 5VZ-FE was $299 last year plus the other belts and the water pump it was around $500.
