The NGK or Denso plugs you buy from the dealer are the EXACT SAME PLUGS you buy from ADAP or OReily...or any other auto parts store. There is zero difference. Anyone who tells you different has no idea what they're talking about.
Coils do NOT need to be replaced unless they go bad. If you're having a misfire then they should be checked and then replace the one(s) that are bad. My 4runner has over 260k miles on the original oils. Coils are not something fail regularly. They should last the life of the vehicle.

Just curious, what mileage are most of you changing the V8 plugs at? For a 2004 V8, the factory recommends 120K miles:

I bought my runner with 135k already on the clock and I have no idea what was or wasn't done. The last owner didn't keep any records and if they did get work done, it wasn't at a dealership
That said, I'm probably overdue for plugs at 210k. Who knows, I could be still running on the OEM installed plugs. I don't notice anything wrong with the way it runs, only replacing since I thinks it's due.Same goes for the timing belt. Have no idea if it has already been done. Going to get it done here within the next couple weeks. I figure at 210k, I'm just on borrowed time if it has yet to ever be done. :scared:
Changed mine as part of my 90K service (actually done around 105K)....

I changed mine soon after I bought it with about 144k on the clock. They may or may not have been the originals, but I didn't want to gamble.

Hi guys, I have a 2004 V8 Limited and I have a weird question about plugs ... do we still need to "gap" them? My dad and I are having a bit of a conflict over this, thanks.

No need to gap them. I have an 04 V8 and wondered the same thing. But no, no need to.
Agree with Dylan.... Current generation of plugs come already gapped to the correct spec.... Trying to adjust will cause more damage than good....

Just an FYI.. That code still works. I just bought 8 plugs and 2 wiper blades (13 each. Total before code was 99.90, after code 69.90.
