2004 interior

Just bought a 2004 SR5 last week and it is dark gray. 2 questions:

1. What is the factory color name?

2. Did this color come with tan leather interior as an option? Seems to me they would put gray leather in.

You mean the exterior is dark gray? That would make the color "Galactic Gray Mica"

No, SR5's don't come with leather interiors, leather was either added at the port when the car came into the US, or the previous owner decided to add leather to it. The color really depends on which interior color the car originally came with. If it originally came with the Taupe/Tan color, then they would have most likely put in the tan leather. Does the leather color match the seat controls and the door panel? It would look a bit weird to have an interior with gray leather seats, tan carpeting and lower dash panels and a black upper dash. Check the label on your driver's door jamb. There should be something like C/TR: 1E9/FG42. If you get FG42, the car originally came with the tan interior, which is why somebody decided to put tan seats in. If you get FG12, the car originally came with the gray interior (not sure why somebody would put tan leather in a gray interior though).

The carpet and dash are taupe. So the tan leather does match quite well. It looks like a factory leather job, so I'm thinking the person ordered it that way.

I just think it's odd that you would see taupe interior with the exterior being dark gray.

SR5 did not come with a factory leather option. Check under the leather for the original factory interior color. Under the headrest is probably the easy option, unless the original material was completely taken out.

SR5 4Runners ordered/delivered in the Southeastern part of the US have leather as an option from the dealer. This is a port-installed option (like all of the spoilers), but it usually original Toyota leather.

This is probably it. I bought the 4Runner here in Columbus, but the CARFAX report shows it originally as a Florida vehicle. It was sold at auction to the dealer I bought it from and shipped to Columbus.

Yes, I'm aware of that. I'm trying to find out though if taupe was a standard interior color for Galactic Gray Mica. Wouldn't stone be the more obvious matching choice on this color of vehicle?

I would have to say I think the Stone was probably the default color for Gray, but someone may have ordered it with the Taupe interior since the door panels, carpet and seats all match.

You're right. Most Galactic Grays come with the stone interior, but taupe was also available. It is the same with Titanium Metallic (silver) as most came with the stone interior but on rare occasions you would see one with the taupe interior.
