2004 rear hatch is dead

Greetings, searched and found a lot of information but nothing with my problem.

When I press the rear hatch button to open the rear door, nothing happens. No motor sound, just nothing. All the other features work.

When I disconnect the battery, the door works 2-3 times, but it has issues with the self closing feature. It also sounds like the motor is struggling. Then it stops working and nothing again. All other features on the rear hatch work without any issues.

I've cleaned and lubed the locking mechanism. That didn't help. I've unplugged everything from the ECU and blown canned air into the connections. That didn't help either.

I did have the ECU replaced many years ago under warranty. The dealership said it was an open circuit or something. I don't remember if any of the other features worked or not then.

I have no way of knowing if it's the motor to the locking mechanism or the ECU.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so, did you replace the locking mechanism (69110-35090) or the ECU (89222-35010)?

I don't want to buy one part and have it be the other. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

I would think it would be the motor dying if you can hear it struggling. That seems alot more common than the ECU.

I thought that too, but would it still make noise with a bad motor? The fact that it doesn't do anything leads me to believe the ECU is bad since it doesn't seem to recognize the button has been pressed. Unless of course the ECU knows the motor is going bad, and prevents anything from happening.

Most people here said they still heard their motors making noises.

Good point. Maybe you can google or check YouTube and see if there's a way to check the power output on the motor.

I just replaced the latch assembly. It works like new now! I'll post back in a week to give another update.

Thanks everyone!
