2004 V8 4.7L gaz consumption - just to compare !

Hi guys !

Just curious what is your gaz consumption in town, highway, towing

I just bought a 2004 Runner V8 4.7L gaz

Juste looking to compare with you guys

I don't do my own calculation. But my on board computer will go from 12-18 L/100. Depending on how much time I spend in traffic. right now it is saying 16.5 with winter gas. I was at around 14.5 before winter gas. I have lift, skids, and rocksliders as a little extra weight. Stock tire height.
 
I got my Runner a few weeks ago. Its an 06' and calculations at the pump said 17.3mpg.

No mods. Mostly 55mph highway commuting. Will check back in after next fillup.
 
I got mine up to about 17.5 mpg. It took me all spring/summer. I did filter, plugs, fluids, and 3 weeks ago I sea-foamed it. Then with the last fill-up I am back down to 14.2 mpg. I am VERY easy on the gas and do everything I can to get the mpg's up. Not because Im some penny pinching freak, I just want to know how the hell people get 19-20. And 22 ????? Do you push the thing most of the time ? I cant get that going down hill in neutral with a tailwind. And I am pretty much stock, just FJ springs and 265/70/17s.
 
16 mpg in general but lower doesn't come as a surprise. The window stickers states 16 & 18 hwy so nobody should expect great mpgs. If the number comes from the dash display you can get some pretty high numbers, they just aren't accurate.

Here's how to get the best lie-o-meter reading: fill up in a mountain town, re-set the display, coast down the mountain and you'll get 99mpgs. From then on it will have that to use for in its erroneous calculation and it'll display great mpgs!

Other than that just be happy with the V8 and the crappy mileage.

Im in Daytona Beach, Florida. Im just going by the dash display. I havent calculated it myself. Another problem is I only drive short distances most of the time. Between that and highway speed down here is 80. Posted is 70 but your a$$ with get mowed over if you do that.

Either your gas guage is extremely accurate or you have a HUGE set of balls made of the finest metals found on this planet. I want to know where you got them, my lovely wife has reduced mine to mere marbles, those little tiny ones you find at a dollar store chinese checkers game, brittle little plastic ones. LOL

Says we have a 23 gallon tank. My light comes on at 18.5-19 gallon mark and OBC says i have 30 miles till i have to call for help. Most i ever pushed into my truck is 20.3 gallons and thats with the OBC saying i have 5 miles till i get stuck on the side of the road not moving. I nearly crapped my pants that day. even my 4runner contributes to my wifes castration of my testicles, by being overly cautious.

So according to my math. You went 430 miles, then pumped in 21.81 gallons of fuel to get you 19.71 MPG. You had a mere 1.2 gallons reserve.

Incredible, i can only dream of such mileage. I average 13mpg. Things that effect my mileage i am sure is me remote starting it to warm up in the morning and city driving.

Next time that light comes on my dash, I am going to tell him to take a hike. [MENTION=67756]Lineman[/MENTION] says we still have another 3 gallons to go. Can i call you to bring me some gas if the light says i told you so? hahaha
 
Filled up in VA, drove 274 miles. Filled up with 13.9 gallons. Drove another 154 miles after second fill up. Sorry I should have explained these calculations better to YOU gshadow, lol. Never said anything about doing 430 miles on a single tank

Lol, you right. Thats me reading to fast and HOPING, just a glimmer of hope that someone actually can get those EPA numbers that was stuck on that window sticker 16/20 city/hwy. I kinda wished you never replied, now my coffee doesnt taste as good as it did ten minutes ago, LoL :(

Hi from Europe,

we here consider driving 55mph on a highway recklessly slow ,,) - so my averages are calculated on the base of higher speeds then most US drivers.

That means:
my usual highway speed of 90-95mph results in around 13.5 - 14.5 mpg
at a constant 70mph I make 15.5-16 mpg
and if I go really constantly slow at 55mph then I can get a 18-19 mpg out of the V8

My 10k miles average with around 70% highway is 15mgp.

I have stock specs, regular maintenance (full synthetic oil, clean air, fuel filters, tires 165/65 r17)

Whatever the fuel economy, the fun of driving a V8 is worth it!
 
My R2D2 reads 18.7 MPG w/ average speed of 25 even though I drive mostly highway miles. I've never checked the mileage manually. Coming out of a Tundra with a 5.7 in it.....I'm getting great mileage MPG w/ a 4.7. :)

Poor mileage has more to do with the ethanol and fuel blends than it does engine size or weight of our right foot. When I use ethanol free 93 for the Harley, my mileage improves by 15 mpg per tank at 75mph after the latest long distance trip. Florida is supposed to stop using blended fuels, but we'll see if the EPA "allows" us to go to it.

I am surprised to read your consumption ... i see that I am high compare to most of you

I have a '04 V8 4,7L and now my average FUEL ;) consumption is 13 MPG

I fill up about 75 liters and ride 260 miles ( 425 km ) I find that high ... ok yes it's a V8 but after lot of research on the net before buying my estimate on MPG was higher based on all comment

Do you guys have any tips or hint how to lower the fuel consumption ?
 
I'm averaging about 300-325 miles per tank. No mods.. (I had my CBE installed yesterday so that doesn't count lol)
