2005 4Runner: 1 owner, ~150K miles, $7500. What to be concerned about?

found a one owner, 2005 V6 4Runner that i am interested in pursuing.

from the CL ad's photos, it seems to come from someone with a very nice home with a well-manicured yard (usually good signs when dealing with used vehicles).

as someone who can't turn a wrench, what should i be concerned about assuming the test drive goes smoothly?

rust, that is my biggest concern when buying. But 7500 seems pretty cheap for that

it's a northeast vehicle so unless its been garaged, there will be rust.

how much will be the main question.

definitely going to need to try and get a PPI done as well.

For a T4R THAT cheap, I'd pay a mechanic to check it out. In CO, they have "mobile mechanics" that charge $100 to come and inspect a used car for you (at the location of your choosing).

Also, maybe pull the Carfax (~$20) for peace of mind.

Not knowing if the vehicle is 4X4 or not, I would like to suggest you test the 4x4 system and make sure everything engages and disengages.

Check the WHOLE frame also, Before I bought my 4th gen I had a 3rd gen that I had to get rid of because my frame was bad. I would much rather deal with a mechanical issue than rust. Have you thought of flying down south to pick one up? thats what I did

Sound pricy. Buy one out of Canada. Much better prices

Rust, head gasket issues, frozen brake calipers, transfer case actuator issues, sunroof rattles, suspension bushings, wheel bearings,.....wait is this a Toyota forum?

Rust mainly. But I'd add. You better learn to turn a wrench if your buying a 13 year old vehicle with 150k miles.
