I think you’re referring to riceandpho’s comment that he likes best kits for single DIN ... but thanks for the suggestion and the link. Have you seen one of these being used? Does it fit better than the Metra or DKMUS kits?

In person, no. Although I have seen them referenced numerous times on the forum as being one of the nicer kits. A bit spendy but...

a pic of what? the install or the kit itself? I can get a picture of the former, but not the latter without taking everything apart again. After looking at the Metra website, it looks like I have the newer 95-8210 ... I didn't use the brackets that came with it but instead used the original Toyota brackets (the original 6-disc changer JBL head unit was manufactured by Pioneer, so the brackets fit perfectly), and then had to trim the top piece off completely (it was clearly designed to do so) in order to get the receiver trim panel clips to fully engage.

Interestingly enough, the Metra website says that I should use 95-8202 for my Sport (95-8210 is apparently made for the Limited)

i would use the new dash kit brackets, its always works when done right.

As the thread suggests, I also have a '05 SR5. I just ordered a Kenwood DDx9703S. I am planning on getting a Maestro RR. so, if I get the T01 wiring harness, do I still need a wiring harness for the stock plug? Also, Will I need a micro bypass or, will the T01 do the same thing?

I installed my Pioneer with the Maestro RR and T01 wiring harness. I can't answer the micro bypass other than to say I didn't do it ... but in terms of the wiring harness, you connect the T01 harness to the aftermarket plug, then the T01 harness plugs into the vehicle wiring harness, the Maestro RR and the new radio. It's pretty simple, once you figure out what connects where ... the instructions aren't exactly intuitively obvious.

the metra kits, the brackets are designed to used with their trim, youll notice that your able to set the radio how deep or flush you need it. thats why the bracket has slots on the screw side.

the only time youll use the factory bracket is with 95-8202 kit.
that kit only work for the base radio equipped 4runner.

another alternative is the 99-8300.

that bestkits looks good too.

Thanks ... I saw the slots. Do those slots allow you to also set the headunit angle? I'd like to be able to tilt the faceplate up slightly to match the tilt of the trim ...

My wife bought me a Pioneer AVH-211EX and a ND-BC8 back up camera for Christmas. She picked them up in Best Buy and it also came with the 95-8202 kit. It's free installation so they will be putting it in but how do I know it's the correct kit if I don't know what model the original head unit was?

I can tell you that the 95-8202 kit does NOT come with brackets, so unless your existing brackets will work with the new radio I would say that you'll have to source some new brackets.

I will order the Metra 95-8210 and see how it goes. I am waiting to get the ecu sorted in my truck so there is a delay getting the stereo sorted.

if you got the higher end models with the dvd player, only the 7 inch version can still have the screen tilt.

you can try drilling new holes to make it work, but you might not be able to put the radio back in.

scosche and metra have new kits out, they have the pieces to make it work, but sometimes it wont look good without the original brackets.
best buy should have either the metra 99-8300 to make it work. if you show a pic of the current radio in, usually i can tell if that kit will work. its the jbl radio opening that have different kit.

check that out if you guys have the jbl opening, youll notice on the the climate control has a extra piece at the top, the base radio dont have that piece on the climate control.

now that metra kit 95-8202 , works fine for most base radio installs , i prefer that kit since it covers the sides of the radio much better. but this requires the use of factory brackets.

that kit dont use any factory brackets, you have the base radio opening. so that 95-8202 will only work if you still have factory brackets.


now if you get the metra 99-8300 kit, it has the brackets for their kit.

I ordered from the 99-8300 from Amazon to go with the 8202, Best Buy don't seem to carry it in stock.

So I don't need the factory brackets now?

99-8300 is a whole new kit, it comes with the brackets thats needed with that kit, you dont use the 95-8202 anymore. if you want to use the 95-8202, you will need the original metal brackets from the dealer.

look at the instructions on the 99-8300 kit, youll cut lots of stuff thats not needed. i only try that kit once, i just didnt like the look of how it came out for the single din install with pocket. for single din, i use the best kit brand.

OK, I have a question.
Here is a pic of the stock radio..

So, the stock trim part angles in towards the radio face.

Here is the trim/install kit I bought.

How the heck is this supposed to work when the original trim is part of the bezel? [MENTION=5149]riceandpho[/MENTION] What am I missing here?

Does this install behind the angled part? Seems it will look a bit wonky this way.
