Question about Irpete's Y adapter....

Maybe I'm confused here, but it looks like this Y adapter is just two wire harnesses spliced togther to form a single Y...tossing out one of the male ends?

If so, then haven't you basically just spliced your two inputs together? Why do you really need the Y adapter, if you could just splice your XM input directly into the RSE cable? Of course, with the Y adapter you don't risk screwing up the cables from your equipment, but wouldn't you accomplish the same thing?

If I'm reading your question right, yes, I could have spliced the RSA wires into the existing harness. The Y adapter option to me just seemed a little less permanent. Didn't want to give the dealer a reason to void my warranty.

Thanks, irpete, it sounds like you understood what I was saying. After thinking about this for a while, it does make more sense to rig up the Y connector, rather than screw up the harnesses on both the XM adapter and the RSE.

Hello all,

I just got the XM kit and I see no one mentioned how the long wire is routed from the rear cargo area up to the nav head unit.

Just curious before I start the install

Oh and one more thing, do you disconnect the battery before doing any of the work or can you leave it connected?

I routed mine along the passenger side of the vehicle. The plastic thresholds of the doorways pops off easily and there is a channel there for wiring. I then went up behind the glove box.

I didn't disconnect the battery. Probably should have, but had no problems not doing so.

One more question...aside from the vais and coastaltech adapters for the ipod, which would both, in theory, work with XM using the y-adapter on the 05 NAV...are there any cheaper alternatives that will allow you to add an ipod along with the XM setup discussed above? For instance, just a plug that will hook into the y-adapter and have just a headphone jack on the end. While the vais and coastaltechs look really sweet, they are just a bit extreme from a strictly economic standpoint in my opinion.
