I'm in the market for a 4th gen, would like to spend no more than 20k. I can get a 50k mile 2005 limited V8 or a 2006 V8 sport... are the 06 upgrades worth having, or should I go with the 05 limited for the leather, navi, heated seats etc... I'd prefer the loaded truck but if the 06 changes are a huge difference, I'll take the newer truck. Any info would be greatly appreciated

I have an 05 Limited V8, Titanium Silver, leather, NAV, heated seats, backup camera,.....etc. I personally love it. I test drove an 06 SR5 and the 05 Limited BLEW it away. However, the previous owner of my truck was an older guy and babied it and the 06 was a little rough. Personally I like all the extras and for what I could tell there wasn't much of a change from 05 to 06 other than the headlights ( and all the extra options in a limited ) but i could be wrong. I'm getting ready to put on SPIDERTRAX and a leveling kit so pictures will be coming soon. GOOD LUCK!
There's a good write up on all the 06 changes somewhere online, thicker windshield, modern bumpers, lights, xm, fender flares, etc... personally, i like the look of the 06 just a little better, but I like options on the 05 limited... my ideal truck would be an 06 limited V8 with less than 50k miles, can't find one for 20k
there are minor things that are different between the 2 years and the trims.
2005 sport does not have power adjustments
2005 limited has power passenger seats and memory for the drivers seat.
for those features alone i based my purchase to only look at 2006 and newer 4Runners.

I guess there is a little bit of a diff, wheel wells are rounded, XM ( had mine hooked up but went with a IPOD adapter ) windshield thickness...couldn't tell a diff. as for the other things I guess it is up to your budget and what you want in your truck. Either one would be great. This is my first 4runner ( coming from a Wrangler and a Pathfinder ) I don't think I will be going back anytime soon. This truck is a beast. It feels so much more solid than anything I have driven.
damn really, ok good to know. i know for a fact then the SE didn't come with power passenger seat in 05. i will correct my post.
do you have a V6 or V8? do you have memory settings for the driver?

The seat position memory was added in 2006.

Memory was added to the 2006 Limited. The biggest differences I noticed were exterior design (LED taillights, projector beam headlights, different fenders), updated nav software with bluetooth/pre-wired for satellite radio, memory driver seats, thicker front windshield/front windows (which I think makes a difference in noise), different interior trim. As for the 06 Sport, you are still going to have the thicker glass and power seats (which are not found in the 2005 Sport). If the truck was built with factory nav, you will have bluetooth.

I would go for 2005 limited, especially if it does not have x-reas. All sports models have x-reas and while it is a good system it will leak… not if but when, and since your are looking on 4-5 years old truck with 50k that would be a concern.
