2005 OEM Headlamp Plastic Lens??

I just purchased OEM headlamps to replace my faded ones.

I went OEM because I read about the problems often happening to non OEM versions.

I just took a look at the new OEM ones and they have what feels like plastic lenses. They don't feel like glass unless I am losing it.

Can anyone shed light on this. I purchased them from Partznet and they are supposed to be genuine OEM parts.

My old ones have glass lenses.

Hmmm ... both my 2005 and my 2006 have (or in the case of the 05 had, I just replaced them) plastic OEM headlight assemblies. I thought Toyota stopped using glass after the 3rd Gen's.

Well you may be correct. I guess I thought my originals were glass. I just went outside and they don't seem to be glass. When I went to partznet I saw they listed 2 assemblies. One said composite and the other did not. I figured I ordered the wrong ones. I don't know what composite is referring to in their item number.

Well that kind of sucks, but I guess if the originals were not glass then it's fine.

I guess I just assumed it was glass.

Since it is off the car, now would be the best time to apply a clear film (think clear bra) material on it to prolonge it's life.

It is the most cost-effective, and longest lasting 'protectant' you can apply.

MSRP, what clear film material are you suggesting?

Can you provide some links?

I am a little hesitant to add anything to the new lens. I'm not sure how confident I am at applying something and doing it well so it's not noticeable. Especially on a clear application like a lens where any faults will surely show up.

Your application prowess will determine how noticeable it is after installing.. typically hardships involve tucking in the edges if the housing is still installed. Youtube for application tips.

I ordered this for my sedan last year, and I've used similar materials in the past. (measure and order one larger than the 4runner headlight)

If you install a clear wrap, does that keep the yellowing from coming back as quicky?

My 05 Headlamps are looking horrible. Tried to buff it. Didn't work. Going to order some new ones. And order the lamp guard from the link you provided. Good find. I hope it doesn't crack or color up.

You can apply sealant on your headlights to protect them from the harmful UV rays. The Diamondite Clear Plastic Liquid Armor is good one.

Usually buffing or other reputable plastic polishes work into restoring foggy headlights. How do you change out the lens on a headlight? Baking in the oven and resealing?
