2006 4runner a/c problem?

06 4runner with a/c question. we have had some 60 to 70 degree days with high humidity here. a/c was working well until recently, turned on a/c in auto mode set to 68 degrees but still does not seem to cool properly.first time I have had this problem. does outside temp. effect a/c cooling?

It could be a few things. Air conditioning can maintain only a temperature difference between inside and outside.

You could have lost the refrigerant. You can buy recharge kits at most auto parts stores but be sure to read the directions carefully. You can easily overcharge your system and lock up the compressor. Maybe best to take it in for service.

Some systems will lose refrigerant over time, although I have two Jeeps, '97 and '98, that have never needed recharge. Usually that happens only if you develop a leak.

It could be a defective thermostat. High humidity would then cause the evaporator to ice up.

My 2006 Sport V6 is in the shop with the opposite problem . Can't get any heat .Last October they replaced the radiator for similar problem . Wonder if this has to do with thermostat as my temp gauge is going high then coming back to normal , then going high again while driving . Coolant level is normal .
