I don't think I really need a bumper, not wanting the extra weight since I'm only getting about 15mpg as is.

Tire question?
Did you run the Daystar 2.5/1.5 with the spider tracks and 275/65/18 Duratrac's only? Did they rub a lot. I will mostly be driving city and highway. Do you think the 265/65/18 are better for the job? I will have the above set up and I am just trying to figure out the best tire. Thanks!!

265/65/18 would be my preferred choice in your application. You'll get better highway mpg's.

We headed out to the Moab area this past weekend to test out my friends new stock 2007 Sport Edition. Both trucks handled great. I tried out some new roof rack equipment for the first time. These Front Runner wolf packs were weather proof and worked flawlessly. For water storage, I decided to use WaterBricks on the exterior to prevent the constant sloshing sound. I'm really liking the new storage approach.
For trails, we did Hurrah Pass towards Lockhart basin - then turned around and went to the Needles district to head up Lockhart basin road for a few miles. Mostly 2-4 ratings. The scenery out here is endless and beautiful. Next time I head out I plan on exploring the entire Lockhart basin road.

What lights do you have in the lower grill. I like the stealth look down there.
Just a pair of "dualy" lights with amber covers.

Thanks LTDSC. Over the years I've used this site to help get the truck where I never thought imaginable. Fully functional and stylish. I had people in the middle of the desert seek me out and compliment me on the truck. The best thing about these trucks is the fact you can drive 75mph on I-70, turn down a dirt road, throw it in 4 lo, and then go drive 100 miles offroad. We use this truck for everything - moving, hauling, sleeping. Highly recommend this trucks.
Only issue I have is that damn tick tick tick exhaust leak.

its pretty amazing how versatile these vehicles are. I'm finding more use for mine than i ever had in my truck. I love being able to go on a road trip, take it offroad at the destination and then drive 200+ miles home no issue.

Awesome pictures and as always love seeing your build progress and trips. My question is my wife and I for the first time are heading out to Moab in my truck. how difficult are those trails with no real "technical" offroading background?

Moab has it all. If you want a non-technical trail, but still has some challenge, I would highly recommend the White Rim Trail if you have a few days. Truly one of the coolest road trips I've been on. I think if you stay in the 1-5 difficulty range, you'll be pleasantly surprised. Anything more than a rating of 6 will pucker your butt more.
Let me know if you head out to Colorado/Utah any time, I'm always down to meet other members.

Thats awesome thanks for the heads up. Will actually be in Denver Saturday. Then Keystone sunday-wednesday. From there is when we head down to Utah possibly via kokopelli road. Then Tetons and yellowstone on our way back to the badlands! Would love to meet up with ya if ya know any trails around the keystone area?

Ah man, you're doing the road trip of a life time! We also did Tetons to Yellowstone last summer. Jealous.
Keystone trails might have too much snow still...I'd have to check what's open or not.

Just ordered a front bumper from SW. Let's hope it doesn't take too long.
For what it's worth, I've been going back and forth on what bumper to go with. I've always liked the looks and lines of the SW bumper, but just couldn't justify waiting months to get it. I seriously looked into the Demello bumper, but in the end I just didn't like how it exposed too much of the 'guts' of the car. I inquired with Pelferybilt, but they don't accommodate body lifts and I didn't want a big gap. I looked into getting a custom bumper made too. In the end of the day, I think the SW has the lines I loved and I mind as well get what I like in the long run, even if that means waiting months for it.

Thanks! After seeing your ride about...3 years ago, I finally pulled the trigger. I requested a rush order (and paid accordingly) so we will see what happens on delivery times.

Saint Johns > North Fork Swan River Valley > Georgia Pass > Webster
I wanted to take advantage of this nice Colorado weather and head back up to the Swan river valley. From Montezuma, I headed up FS 275 which follows a creek and some old homesteads. This trail quickly climbs to the ridge which reaches above 12,000 feet. The views are 360 at this point and it gives you great perspective of the surrounding area. Temperature dropped to 45 degrees.
Following the ridge, there are a handful of steep climbs and descents. One or two of the downgrades were more than entertaining.
From here, I descending down the North Fork Swan River Valley. The trail follows a few switchbacks down, leading to a 50 yard section of whoop-de-whoops that tested the traction control and articulation to my comfort zone. At one spot your car is fully leading inches from a large tree branch, but luckily the truck performed as desired and came out unscathed. There are numerous camping spots along the river as it heads towards Breckenridge.
From the junction, I headed up FS 55 up towards Georgia Pass. I always liked this climb as it provides a handful of off killtered sections and steep ascents over various small boulders. The view from the top looking east into the South Park valley are awesome.
I decided to keep trekking since the day was going well and headed up FS 121 up towards Webster Pass. Unfortunately, the pass was still closed due to snow, so I wasn't able to take it up and over to Deer Creek and back home. I decided to just post up camp, also foregoing Red Cone for another day, and went back home.
Definitely recommend this loop, as a day trip or a nice overnighter.
