Creede, CO > Rat Creek > San Luis Pass > West Willow Creek
We headed down to the Creede, Colorado area for a weekend getaway in a backcountry yurt. Check out Phoenix Ridge yurts.
We also explored the Bachelor Loop that heads northwest out of Creede. It follows mostly forest logging roads up until you reach the treeline. From here, we climbed up the valley floor, with numerous creek crossings and hill climbs. The ascent up to the summit is moderately challenging, with a few deep ruts to avoid. At the summit, the weather turned for the worst with heavy rain and lighting. The road conditions quickly turned on us, and the descent was slippery and muddy. All in all, the duratracs at 40 psi (didn't air down) handled the trail well. I did wake up to a tire the next day at 8psi, however. The trail descends east into West Willow Creek. From here, the 14,022 foot San Luis Peak prevails. West Willow Creek follows the next valley all the way south back into Creede.
