2006 V8 with clunk/thud when stopping/going

2006 V8 all wheel drive. When I put the brake on and come to a stop there is the thud and again when I accelerate from the stop.

I have read this is the drive shaft needing grease. I had a local shop grease all 6 fittings but it hasn't gone away.

Would the type of grease they used prevent the thud from going away? Any ideas?

Did they check for worn u-joints? It sounds more like that to me. The driveshaft issue is more of a clunk when taking off after a somewhat hard or downhill stop. You also feel the rear of the car drop with the clunk. Greasing sometimes fixes it but some mention removing the zerk near the end that slides out to see if the issue goes away. Some folks drill out that zerk so there is no suction effect. My truck does it but I haven't got under there to check it, there is no noise when coming to a stop on mine.

Grab the driveshafts near the u joints and joints on the axle shaft and see if you can move them, they should be firm with no movement

thanks, I'm going to take it in tomorrow for a small weld job on the exhaust so I will check then. This thud happened a few months ago. The mechanic said he could only find one fitting to grease on the rear. It worked for a few days, maybe a week then it came back.

Correct. One type at the u-joints and a diff type at the slide yokes.

The mechanic used the same in all 6. Maybe that's why the clunk did not go away...
