2007 4Runner, Horn When Locking

When I use the fob to lock or unlock my doors, the horn has started beeping three times instead of just twice and normally the horn/lights will start flashing after about fifteen minutes, even when no one is around to set it off.

Has anyone had this problem? Is this an expensive electrical problem or (hopefully) a quick fix?

Thanks in advance.

cheers

Do you have the extra security system installed that's found on so many of the southern 4runners? If you do you'll have a little red lighted button on the left side of the steering wheel where the differential lock button is.

My previous 4runner had that system installed and I think 3 horns indicates the alarm being set off. I know you said yours isn't being touched but maybe there's a problem with the system that's causing false detections. If that's what's going on then taking the system out is probably easier than fixing it. The toyota dealers that saw that system when i brought my car in didn't know what it was even though it was fairly common a few years ago.

Edit: Found a picture of the button for those of you who haven't seen it before

interesting. i do have that little red button, that might be the issue.

Thanks for the info!

I still have the owners manual for that extra security system. It's just a little pamphlet. I'll look at it when I get home and see if there's anything worthwhile in it.
