2007 Cup Holder Fix

So, I picked up my 2007 Limited from the dealer on Friday evening, and on Saturday morning I proceeded to spill some coffee from my 20 ounce Oncue Styrofoam cup. Because I read my owners manual, I knew that I could adjust the center piece for a tighter fit. Did that, and noticed that it was really too small on my side, and waaay to big on the other side.

So, I check out T4R.org to see if this is an issue, and sure enough, there are some other threads discussing this horrible design and methods to fix it. Because I don't want to be chained to a certain type of travel cup/glass, and I am cheap, I wasn't quite satisfied with the options presented.

Here's what I came up with...
1 - Purchase package of four "Bell Drink Holders" (with inner "springs") - $2.99 at Autozone.
2 - Remove Hangar and smooth out with a utility knife.
3 - After placing in the cup holder and finding a "natural position" drill holes through the cup holder and the center piece (I used one screw per side, but you could use two).
4 - Screw 'em.
5 - Fits any size cup/bottle/glass I could find (tight fit for my Nalgenes).

This is easily removable, and easy to revert back to the stock configuration, with nothing but two unnoticeable holes in the center piece.

Whew! Now all I need is a basket, light bar, lift kit, sliders, tires, LEDs...

Well the round certainly beats the square that's normally there. I wish we had a solution that had spring loaded arms like my Honda Accord used to have. Like this:

No one uses mine in center console. Family seem to like to place water bottles in door pockets instead. So I got rid of that devider and made a lid for that cubby. Now it makes for great storage.

I just did this only instead of using a screw I cut and used Velcro. That way if I need the full size cup holder I can easily remove on the cup holders and store in center console.

Great idea! Will have to give this a try!:thumb3:

I haven't really had any problems with my cup holders in my 04 I use the little fold out tabs on the divider piece. Although nothing fits correctly except my coffee thermos in there I've never had a drink tip over before. But this is a good creative solution to your problem.

great work! now my route44 cherry lime-aid won't lean to the side whenever I take a turn LOL... never had it fall out but damn if it does it will be devastating !!! HAHAHAHA

:thanks:

I'm with rebelbowtie, the arms on the center piece adjust to fit most cups. I will say I didn't know that until I spilled my first drink also! Looks good though! Nice job!

Same here I have an 04 and I put every type of beverage in mine, and never had one fall out. Did they change the cup holders on the later years?

I actually like the ones in my 04.

I think they are the same in all the 4th gens... Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

44 ounces of Sonic cherry lime-aid would look like the elevator scene in The Shining!

I always have a problem with my blender bottles falling over when they get empty. I'm going to try this! I may just try velcro though. Thanks for the post.

Great cup holder solution. Thanks!

The plastic arms broke off my cup holder insert and I've been looking for a solution this is it! Thanks!
