So, I picked up my 2007 Limited from the dealer on Friday evening, and on Saturday morning I proceeded to spill some coffee from my 20 ounce Oncue Styrofoam cup. Because I read my owners manual, I knew that I could adjust the center piece for a tighter fit. Did that, and noticed that it was really too small on my side, and waaay to big on the other side.
So, I check out T4R.org to see if this is an issue, and sure enough, there are some other threads discussing this horrible design and methods to fix it. Because I don't want to be chained to a certain type of travel cup/glass, and I am cheap, I wasn't quite satisfied with the options presented.
Here's what I came up with...
1 - Purchase package of four "Bell Drink Holders" (with inner "springs") - $2.99 at Autozone.
2 - Remove Hangar and smooth out with a utility knife.
3 - After placing in the cup holder and finding a "natural position" drill holes through the cup holder and the center piece (I used one screw per side, but you could use two).
4 - Screw 'em.
5 - Fits any size cup/bottle/glass I could find (tight fit for my Nalgenes).
This is easily removable, and easy to revert back to the stock configuration, with nothing but two unnoticeable holes in the center piece.
Whew! Now all I need is a basket, light bar, lift kit, sliders, tires, LEDs...
