2007 Tacoma Auto-Dim Mirror

I recently purchased an auto-dim mirror off craigslist. Got it for $25 so I couldn't pass it up. However, I'm having some trouble finding the info I need for it. It's from a 2007 Tacoma, that's all the info I have.

I've searched and searched with no clear results. I just can't seem to find this kind of mirror anywhere.

I know for a fact my 4Runner use to have the auto-dimming mirror. Not only do I have a brochure on it but It also says it on the window sticker. Why the original owner took it out I have no clue and I have yet to pop open the over head compartment to look inside for wiring.

So without me being able to find info on the auto dim mirror I have I don't know what I need. If all else fails and I can't get it to work then at least it was only $25 and it is way better than the piece of crap that I had in there.

I know that when I lived in California, a few rear view mirrors fell off during the summer. Would all 4runners be wired for auto dimming mirrors?

Why would the 4unner one falls off? I know some are held on by adhesive and the heat could cause it to degrade, but these are built in to the molding.

all good, lol. seriously though, i know its hard to fathom >$100 on a mirror but it really is the shiz. i forgot to mention in the other thread about the map lights. theyre now the best interior lights in the rig and the only ones used whilst driving because they point down and not in your face like the stock map lights.

there is a really good install writeup on here that even shows how to mod the lights to work in conjunction with the stock courtesy lights.

not being familiar with the tacoma mirror, i gotta believe that if its only auto dim and not temp, etc, and so long as the light sensor(s) are somewhere on the mirror itself, i think all you should need is 12v?

and even if its oem, i think theres only a couple mfgrs out there, cipa being one of them. in the other thread the op contacted their tech dept and they actually gave him a pinout diagram. might be worth a call or email if you can figure out the mfgr.

Well I did a little more digging around and found the brochure on it I have in my set of OEM manuals. I originally had a Gentex Auto-Dim with compass mirror in there. Why it was replaced with some stupid cheesy 5 dollor mirror I'll never know. So I popped open the overhead and there seems to be no kind of wiring or indication that one ever existed. There is however some kind of bracket that sit towards the back, behind the over head. I want to say it has something to do it it but not sure.

I really would love for someone to take some detailed pics of their factory installed auto dimming mirror (probably with compass). So I can get an idea of what to look for.

On a side note, looks like I got a Gentex basic auto dimming mirror which usually retails for around $100.

I'm bumping this.. I'd love to find a harness for this thing so I can get it working. I did a little more digging. Looks like it might be made by Gentex.

I have the auto dimmer mirror. All of them on the 3rd gen is dealer installed.


I would hard wire two light gauge wires directly to the mirror (solder them) and then tap you sun roof switch for power.



I also have an auto dimmer mirror for the Sequoia with harness. It just glues to the windshield while the 4runner mounts to the body.

there actually really easy to wire do you have a power probe or no someone who does or a volt metter even all you have to do is see what wire is power that turns off on the dome and a ground wire t-tap it in to them and it works. that is how the dealers hook them up ive done them before that way to

OK, I too installed one of this auto-dimming mirror to my 4runner. There are two wires from the mirror. I hook one to the +12 V coming to the reading lamp and the other ground. Is this correct?

make sure the 12v u wire it to is not a constant power source and only has power when the key is on
