2007 V8 Timing Belt Replacement $$ ?

I am needing to put the Runner in the shop for the required replacement of the timing belt, water pump etc.

Got a couple of quotes, but am wondering what you all are giving for this repair?

Local Toyota shop, used OEM parts on it. Took most of the day, but the local "stealership" wanted 2100.00 to do the same job.

Yea. Prices will vary by location and region, but 800-1200 is in the normal (non-rip) range at a dealer.

Make sure they do the water pump as well.

My buddy used to work at a Toyota Dealer. He did an under-the-table 4.7 Timing belt/water pump job for another buddy for $500 including parts. Pocketed a little over $300, took him under 3 hours.

Seems like he got a pretty good deal. It seems like since cars tend to go wrong less often these days, the places that fix them want to earn the same profit levels, so they just up the repair rates.

As a joke, I once asked a local shop how much they'd charge to replace a pre-cat o2 sensor (30 second job). $70 "labor".

Had mine done for the first time at 142xxx a couple months ago at local dealership. Tbelt and water pump (plus the coolant flush and other items they do) for just over $1000. I got it back later that day.

If you know someone who knows how to do it then save your money. I had just bought the car, didnt have time, and negotiated the tbelt replacement into the price i bought it for so I just had my dealer do it.

I just did my v8 timing belt/ water pump replacement at the dealer and the total came to $540. Make sure you look on there websites for specials. I was able to use a 15% off coupon for vehicles with 80,000 plus miles to sweeten the deal. I didn't bring that up before my quote. The stealerships beat most independent shops, they must be doing good volume.

Yeah when I had mine done last year, I paid $800 at the dealer. It was the full service (timing belt, water pump, serpentine belt, pulleys, tensioner, seals, etc) All the other shops wanted at least $1000.

I am planning on having the stealership just do the timing belt and water pump. The other stuff seems easy enough to do on my own.

It's not very hard to do the work yourself. There are a few step by step guides available on the web with pictures to guide you. I just bought a repair manual and a kit off Ebay that had all Toyota parts which included the pump, gaskets, both belts, tesioner pulleys and both rad hoses. The cost was $260. It took me about 10 hours and I took my time labeling everything as I went. Lets you spend dollars on something else and you know for sure the job was done!
