2010 4R Suspension Popping Noise

My 2010 4R 4WD has recently developed a popping/clanking noise when the suspension is significantly extended or compressed. Hitting a speed bump will not do it, but hitting a road hump at 10-15 MPH will definitely cause it. Also, dips in the road where the entire truck goes up and down causes it, as well.

I have adjustable Bilsteins on the front with stock struts. They are adjusted to the 3rd highest setting (one below the top) to handle the weight of the ARB bumper up front. Also have 285/55/20 BFG A/T on stock wheels.

A quick inspection of each strut didn't yield any obvious issues, but I don't know where else to look or how to check components that could be causing the issue. Upper ball joint seems a bit dark and moist as if they were leaking, but no visible tears or noise. Sway bar was solidly mounted on each point.

Any ideas?

When was your last F/E Alignment?

Mine popped and creaked like that because the alignment guy didn't fully tighten the lower control arm cam bolts. Check them- They need to be TIGHT.

Interesting. I hadn't thought of that at all! I will look back in my records and see when the last time was and go ahead and have it realigned anyway.

Cost $50+ to find out that alignment guy didn't tighten control arms. :O
