There is a proposed settlement for a class action lawsuit against Toyota related to certain unintended acceleration issues. There is plenty of information available at the Toyota Economic Loss Settlement Website. You may also receive a postcard in the mail advising you of the basic information.

In short, 2010 4runners are included in the class action. If you owned a 2010 4runner (or several other models and years) at any point before December 28, 2012, you may be included in the class. If so, you should visit the website to determine whether you wish to participate or not... there are plenty of valid opinions for both positions. There are strict time limits to exercise your rights.

The potential recovery amount varies by state and the number of claims filed. 2010 4runner owners may receive $37 - $125.

why does this sound exactly like the Facebook Privacy Rights settlement?

Well, to the extent that they are both class actions, they are very similar. However, that's kinda like saying all lawsuits are similar because they are lawsuits...

All class actions are similar in that the individual members are represented by that class without requiring significant active participation by the individual members. Class actions are actually a tool to 1) represent individuals where the procedural hurdles and financial cost would otherwise discourage the pursuit of a claim and 2) prevent the judicial system from being overwhelmed by hundreds of thousands of $100 claims.

Class actions typically offer you the opportunity to opt out and reserve all rights to bring an individual action, should you so desire.

I am not rich, but this is so not worth $125 bucks to me lol

Ditto - interesting thread tho.

If I felt "damaged", I'd file ... but I do not. Attorneys will make the big money here, make no mistake..... and they certainly do not drive Toyotas.

As far as I know 5 gens 4Runners don't have unintended acceleration problem. Even if it had I'd rather have Toyota to fix it than exercise my greed and get $125 for nothing. I guess lawyers are the only ones who really need this lawsuit.

I got my card in the mail a couple of days ago. I wonder if I no longer qualify since I replaced my mats with Husky liners (and they stay put)? I'm also up for my 30K service. I should negotiate with the dealer to drop $10 off the price of the service since they don't have to check to see if my mats have moved.

I'm out. I will be responding with a letter of my disgust in the matter. I have a Camry that is covered under the lawsuit, and I do not want to be lumped into that group.

Wasn't this already found to be bogus?

Yes, it was BS. But that doesn't stop money grubbing scumbag lawyers from extorting money through class-action lawsuits in friendly jurisdictions. The scumbag lawyers get millions, the so-called plaintiffs get little, and the company gets royally screwed.

All reasonable opinions...class actions have some legitimate and beneficial uses, but many times those have been obliterated by greed. I believe this action, unlike many others, provides the lead plaintiffs additional compensation for their time, which tends to be one thing many people find offensive about class actions.

Now as to facts, all members of this class should at least note that there are specific deadlines to 1) include yourself in the settlement and receive either repairs or compensation, 2) object, and 3)exclude yourself (and then either ignore it or bring your own action).

I have no interest in your decision. My point in saying this is that not taking any action will be deemed to be an affirmative action (I believe to ibclude yourself but receive no payment but will have to check). If you would like to object or exclude yourself, be sure to do so within the time limit.

I'm sorry, counselor, but there was absolutely no fricking issue here. None, nada, zippo. This was a replay of the '80s Audi "unintentional" acceleration BS, a fake scandal that nearly sank Audi.

The cars were completely safe. Some idiots who could not find their backside with both hands in a dark closet took themselves out of the gene pool. And as a result, the press manufactured a scandal and scumbag lawyers took advantage to loot Toyota's finances. They claimed to be after "justice" for the "victims" but were truly only out to line their pockets.

That is all that went on here. There was nothing just, honest, or honorable about this legal action and I will have no part of it.

I am so completely sick and tired of this type of perversion of our justice system by dishonest and immoral bottom-feeder lawyers. They are destroying our country.

Don't you dare defend this perversion of justice.

The interesting thing was, it came out during the height of the recession when Toyota took over the top spot of #1 carmaker in the world. Now i'm not a conspiracy theorist but i'd guess the "big 3" or the us government got this to happen. Bad press about toyota was frontline news for weeks. However when a big 3 automaker had huge recalls, they were buried in the back section of the newspaper, now, just logically thinking, how does that make sense?

I've always wondered why whenever anybody spouts silly unproven conspiracy theories they always preface it by saying they don't believe in conspiracy theories

I don't think there was any conspiracy and certainly not one involving the big 3 or the US government. This was just typical media dogpiling onto a piece of journalistic red meat and then the scumbag lawyers circling in for the kill.
