Additions/Revisions to my inital list...

• I am moving the lever operated 4WD control to my dislike list as I believe this will similar to my 1999 whereas it is a part time only 4WD system. This means that whenever the lever is in 4WD the front and rear axles are locked together, no ability to run 4WD on dry ground.
  
• On the full time 4WD models, also a dislike here. There will probably be no seperate button to lock/unlock the center diff. This means that you will be forced to have the center diff locked when in 4WD Lo.

What makes you think this? Would seem to be a strange move backwards.

The 4th generation 4Runners with 4WD came standard with a Torsen Limited-Slip Center Differential that could be locked. Although I haven't seen the Torsen LSC Differential mentioned as a feature in any of the leaked PDFs, I doubt that Toyota eliminated this feature. I agree with JB that it would be a strange move backwards, kinda like dropping the the V8 for a four banger. But then again Toyota did say the 4Runner would "return to it roots."

No multi-mode 4WD transfer option at all.

Its either part time 2 speed transfer or full time 4WD with no option to use low with the center diff unlocked.

Probably the Limited will be the only version with the torsen center diff. This returns the Limited back to something more than a $4000 increase in price for just leather seats, larger wheels, dual zone a/c and some small stuff like auto headlights and lighted gauge needles. Back in 99 the price increase for the limited actually bought you something such as automatic climate control, multi-mode 4WD and larger flares. I never understood why Toyota put all the goodies on even an SR5 for the 4th gen, not much incentive to upgrade to the Limited.

The problem with the 5th gen for me is I cannot find a model I would actually buy right now. No version comes with the V8, which how can you downgrade after owning one. The Trail Edition...while the e-locker, hood scoop, crawl control, waterproof seats, and kdss are great...its required to get the sunroof and only has part time 4WD. The Limited is the only way to get the full time 4WD but comes with 20's, skirted bumpers, small flares and cannot be optioned with the TE's offroad goodies.

Well I will look forward to the refreshed version in 2013 and hope for the following...A TE with the 4.6L V8, no sunroof, multi-mode 4WD, control of the center diff lock via a button, projector headlamps and fogs, Leds all around.

Check my 2010 4Runner History page for more specs you may not have seen elsewhere, like the fact that you can get footwell lighting optionally though only up front.

I have to have leather, which will probably be a PITA to find on the Trail... But, I really like full-time 4wd of the Limited. Gotta have the KDSS, want the V8.

Heck, I'd pay and extra $1k fee and wait a few months for a "design your own".

4.6l, full time 4wd, sliding deck or at least a flat cargo floor, KDSS, leather, color matched bumpers, maybe the hood scoop. I like a sunroof.

I want a V8. Gotta have full-time 4WD, locking center-diff, and low-range. Want KDSS, but could live without it. I don't need a sliding deck. Might be a nice toy, or not; the two-level cargo tray on the 4th Gen is a waste of money and space. I've gotta have leather and heated seats. I prefer color matched bumpers. I have no use for a non-functional hood scoop. I can do without a sunroof, but I want the various toys that come with a LTD edition -- garage door opener, automatic headlights, heated mirrors, etc.

I'm glad Toyota did add some of desirable features in the 5th gen:
-windshield wiper de-icer
-auto up/down on all windows
-smart key system
-Optitron gauges
-USB audio input/iPod control
-KDSS
-40/20/40 split rear seats

Don't like:
-mast antenna
-skirts and body kit on Limited
-245 tires
-chrome accents

Still missing seat cooling/ventilation.

...No V8 option - This is too bad. The 2010 4Runner with the 310 HP 4.6L V8 and 6spd seemed like a perfect match! Something is fishy here though, Toyota didn't design a brand new V8 engine just for the Tundra - this engine has to be going into another Toyota truck - my guess is the new Lexus GX. If not that, then there is something else not out in the open yet...

Not a big fan of it, but at least the Lexus doesn't have that odd shaped stereo, and doesn't have the window switches at the top of the door panel, or the bulging tail lights etc

I just don't like the styling of the LFA. It seems very overwrought to me. The Ferrari 458 is more my style.

The LF-A is pretty good looking. But they FUBAR'ed the front end, everything from the front wheels forward. The concept was much better looking. What's with that silly crease from the side of headlight down.

Toyobaru/Subayota does look promising but we shall see how much they deviate when production begins.

Toyota needs to excite the masses and the LF-A is simply for an exclusive buyers and while it may excite me it simply doesn't go beyond looking at it in pictures but at least Toyota/Subaru concoction look interesting we'll see how much of the concept makes it to production but still Toyota has become quite vanilla over the last 10 years.
