2010 Lexus GX460 VS 2010 4runner

I'm sure the inside is nicer... but I don't think the Lexus holds a candle to the 4Runner as far as asthetic appeal. But hey, to each his own...

Exactly what I would do, spend $5k more and buy a LC.
LC starts at $66k, but it is hard to find one for less than $73k. So it might be more like an extra $15k.

Oh well, it is easy for me to pretend to spend money I don't have.

Price Difference

$52,845.00 GX460

$42,494.00 5th Gen Limited
(I used the limited as an example only because it was the closest for "options")

Yes the GX has a V8 but is it really worth another 10K? Wouldn't be to me.

I see a ton of GX460s online MSRP 60K+ and had a friend buy a 09 LC and the MSRP was $68K. When they're over 60K, really what's the difference? haha

Good luck trying to get a GX without the $5375 navigation/covenience/comfort package (at least in my region) = $58,220.00

GX 460 Premium edition with packages: $62,070.00 - $67,140.00

Towing issue

don't back in - open the garage when you need access / unload then close garage door.

That is what I do with our Armada and yes in Alaska as well so I understand that it is annoying when it is minus 30 out like last winter, but did not impact my purchase decision...

The side opening rear door is a deal breaker for me because:

1) PITA if not impossible to open when my camper is hitched up in the back. The 4Runner door just clears the propane tanks by a couple of inches.

2) I use a hitch mounted Yakima bike rack 3/4 seasons and while it swings away so I can open the 4Runner door, the side opening door opens in the same direction and would not work with the bike rack.

3) I sometimes use an Explorer 2 rear mounted tent when we go "truck camping" for a fast weekend and it only functions with "normal" opening rear doors.

4) The vertical rear door helps shield me frrom rain and snow when trying to get or do something in the back cargo area.

I also love the roll down rear window which comes in handy when carrying long boards, moldings, and other building materials.

The roll down window is on the GX as well, if you weren't already aware. It is easily my favorite "4Runner" thing.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just don't want to spend over $60K and not be happy with the purchase.

The other thing about the barn door is that it opens on the "wrong" side when you park downtown along the sidewalk. Basically, the door would be in your way when you try to load/unload things to/from the sidewalk. AND, if you parallel park in a tight spot, you can't even open the trunk!

Won't work for me as well, same issues with a swing door just as Gromulus has to deal with.

:iagree:

Same situation with my bike rack, Yakima Holdup, which means I have to unload the bike at the very least.

I live in an urban area and parallel parking is more than 90% of the spaces around town. There is no way to leave 5' of space behind the GX for the swing door. A Smart ForTwo will probably be shoved in behind me. While the lift glass is an improvement, it just doesn't work for certain things that are heavy or in bulky sizes. Also, the door is swings open on the wrong side, blocking the sidewalk, unless I'm parked on the left side of a one way street.

Toyota really dropped the ball, the ONLY benefit of a swing door over the hatch is that easier to close for the vertically challenged and complete non-issue if it's a powered hatch. I can't think of ANY reasons why I would prefer a swing door over a hatch.

We think alike.

What we need is a good surgeon to do an engine transplant for us. And since we're at it, let's transplant the 5.7L V8 into the 5th gen!

Land Cruiser or LX570 if you can swing the cash.

Yup, that must've been Toyota's plot all along push its SUV buyers to the cream of the crop.

Sequioa, too much bulk and heft. And it's IRS.

4Runner, the styling is not for me. I don't like how I'm being forced to pick the TE or the Limited, while neither has a clear and distinct advantage over the other. If the TE came with full time 4WD, then maybe.

FJC, barn door, part-time 4WD with the auto, poor visibility. I don't like the suicide doors, in which case I rather have an AccessCab Tacoma with better outward visibility.

GX460, they kept the barn door.

So the only way to go is the TLC or LX570.

Yup. When I'm surf fishing in the rain, I'll pop the hatch to give me some place to change lures out of the rain.

Coming from a family that has an 07 GX470 as well as 2 4th gen 4Runners, both vehicles felt underpowered compared to our current vehicles. I test drove the new GX460 and it was beautiful inside- IMO no comparison to the 4Runner in that respect. On the other hand, the exterior is ugly. The new 4.6L felt sluggish and it definitely struggled at times. I test drove a 5th gen Limited and the exterior styling is growing on me a lot. The interior felt a little plasticy for my liking. I think the materials in my 05 interior were better. As for the V6, it had a little kick but I missed my V8.
