2010+ TRD Supercharger

The third row will just be for my kids friends, I only want it for short around town stuff, nothing more. Sequoia and Tahoe are bigger than what I'd like.

Supercharger I figured would help in both torque and hp?

Sounds like the GX is exactly what you need though, is the barn door really such a pain? It's everything you want in a car.

Hello,

I saw the supercharger thread (read all 19 pages) and I was wondering if the TRD supercharger is available yet? If so, where? I called Toyota and they said "there are no plans for a TRD superchager for that vehicle".

This is, oddly, a deal breaker for me. Read on if you want to know why, otherwise, from here on is just how my search is going. I want 3rd row, reliable and not flashy. I narrowed my search down to either a diesel or a V8. I like torque. I want to be able to pass people in the mountains if I feel like it.

I'm down to:
Tier 1
Toyota 4runner LE w/TRD supercharger
Land Cruiser (bordering on flashy, if people know what they cost)

Tier 2 (I feel like I may walk out of the supermarket and never find my car, there are that many of the following in my area)
Acura MDX
Highlander
Honda Pilot
X5 diesel (too flashy)
GL350 Bluetec (too flashy)

GX460 is out, I just don't like barn doors. I don't really like the Infiniti JX, I don't like CVT and the big Inifniti, well I just find it to be a bit too "Salomon pants and a sweater tied around my neck" for me. American cars, aren't my thing.

Anyway, any updates on the supercharger?

If you really did read all 19 pages you now know as much as the rest of us on the supercharger subject. Lots of speculation and guesses by all, and No Supercharger.

I really did read all 19 pages, but I didn't know if there were any updates since the last post on this thread before I posted. I was hoping somebody, especially the guy who met the director of engineering at TRD may be able to shed some more light.

The barn door design, to me, is not good. I used a Rav4 to help my friend move and that barn door made for loading heavy objects into the car very difficult. People just can't stand on either side and place something into the trunk, which is part of the reason i'm getting a bigger car, to be able to move stuff.

Anyway, thanks for the responses, I'll just wait patiently to see if the TRD SC ever gets released or try and find a good deal on a LC.

Land Cruisers are not really powerful until 2008 and most of those are still over 50k. Even with the 5.7 when you look at a weight to power ratio they are almost the same. And GX is right there too.

They have the first supercharged 5th gen on the streets now, it was at the latest FJ Summit a couple of weeks ago. There is a video where the TRD representative was saying its in its way and I think January 2014 is the date.

What did you add to your truck to get 1500 lbs of extra weight? Wouldn't that put you well over the payload ratings?

How can you tell? I'm impressed if you can, but I'd assume that you have the 07-09 parts number or you didn't see the manifold air compressor adapted. When did they do the air compressor for the manifold anyway? Was it 2012? My FJC friend has it in his and it takes up a ton of real estate.

The part number listed on that screen shot is NOT for the 2010+. Either that or TRD forgot to add the correct fit kit info to their website.

The supercharger sold as a main assembly with a separate “fit kit” required for the Tacoma and the FJ Cruiser. The part numbers are:

PTR29-35093 FJ Cruiser Fit Kit, 2007-2009
PTR29-35100 Tacoma Fit Kit, All V6, 2005-2010
The Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price for the complete supercharger with fit kit is $4,500. The warranty is the same as the Toyota Powertrain Warranty of up to y years or 60,000 miles or the remainder of the powertrain warranty at the time of the installation when installed by a Toyota dealer. Installations by anyone other than a Toyota dealer carry a 12 month/12,000 mile parts only warranty. Please see the warranty section of TRD site for details.

I would love for URD to spill the beans on their supercharger. Apparently it is ready, but Toyota is stalling them by not providing connectors. I wish they would at least provide some details after all the R&D they put into it. I guess they don't want to rock the boat with Toyota.
