I sent Gadget an email a few mins ago to see if he has any new developments. I've known him since 1998 when he first starting tweaking the old Tacoma V6 TRD S/C'ers. Great guy btw!

Yea, him and I see each other ever year or so, I don't think he ever remembers who I am. Lol. Once we were talking about the supercharger for the 4.7 and he said he had one just sitting at his place. He said we may be able to work something out...... Well that was years ago, and I still kick myself for not following that road.......lol

I talked to a Toyota rep today about something completely unrelated. BUT. I mentioned I now have two 5th gens and no supercharger......the response was interesting...I quote "I think you will get a pleasant surprise very soon".
I wanted more, but I was a calm, and said only.."good"
Soooooo.. Is it going to be released in conjunction with the TRD Pro 4Runner???????

So I did get to see URD's Runner last weekend when a big group of Toyota's went wheeling in VA. Me and him being the only 5gen's there. MY wife " said I was like a kid" it was super cool to talk to Gadget he's a nice guy and let my clime all over his Runner. Bottom line, he is ready to go if Toyota would give him the PCM codes. He told me a lot of stuff but out of respect for him I said I would not talk about it. URD's Runner as been S/C for 3 years now. with no problems and makes a lot of power will over 300hp.

With all the junk in the trunk my rig rolls with, if either Gadget or TRD releases a s/c for our rigs... Well..

Just left the TRD pro booth at chicago auto show. I started asking every one about the 2010+ superchargers (almost being an ass about it). A man a few truck back looked up and gave me a wave to come over. Toyota passed epa carb certification last thursday. It was the last hickup to bring it to market!!!! He gave me a bit of back ground on the issues they had with it. The first prototype was revealed in middle 2010 in Japan. The crank HP of that first set up was in the 420hp range. They had a few longevity oem issues and pulled it back to around 370hp. This was around mid 2012 that toyota was satisfied with the longevity testing and submitted the kit for carb compliance. It was pushed back several times to them and toyota had to pull power back again to around 350hp in order for carb compliance to be satisfied. It has now passed and we should be seeing production start as everything is in place to start bringing units to market.

Closer to double your figure. $7-$8000 is My guess.
$1K per 10hp = Fail
The initial 420hp figure sounded a whole lot more reasonable.

No fail. That's about what true reliable additive horsepower runs - $1K per 10 hp. You really only have three true options: Displacement, Supercharger and Turbocharged. Any of the three will cost about $100 per HP in round numbers.
Sounds high to me. Anyone know off hand what the Taco and FJ systems run in comparison??

The supercharger for the old 4.0 is a different type. The new one will probably be about the same price as the SC for the 5.7... If it is actually ever released.
I don't know if this video is talking about a new SC or old but the video is about a week old. They mention about a 30% increase for a 260 HP engine.

What about intakes and exhausts? That's like $250-500 per 1hp, LOL.
But on a serious note, go try and push +50-75 hp reliably (on a Japanese motor) and tell me how much you spend; I wouldn't be surprised if you end up right around that ballpark when you're all said and done. All the little things here and there add up, and add up quick. Gotta pay to play, good sir :yo:
I understand what you mean though, when I look at those commercial supercharger kits out there for all them 'merican muscle cars (that gain you several hundred horsepower for about the same price), these TRD supercharger kind of look like a huge rip off, lol.
That's why I've decided I am not going to bother with a TRD supercharger if it ever came out. I think I'd rather invest in something with a HEMI and supercharge that :usa2:
That's defiantly talking about the new s/c considering its on the table in front of the guy. I sure hope this means its coming out. I'm wanting to get rid of my tacoma for a 14 4r, but unless they have a s/c don't think I would get one. I really like the s/c that's on my tacoma now way to much to downgrade in power.
