The CC is indeed aweful. My TSX is near perfect when it comes to CC and my old Xterra was similar to the TSX.
I wonder if this is something we all need to start complaining about? MY assumption is this has been going on for a while with most Toyotas.
Reata, although Toyota owns Lexus, I think the disconnect between the 4runner and RX is pretty big. Lexus engineers things very differently and to a higher standard. Their focus is also much higher on comfort and easy driving.
I agree my 08 Tacoma had the same issue. It was very annoying but just learned to live with it.Seems to be the same cruise control from my 07 Tacoma. The taco was a little better with less weight, but had the same "features."
I just bought a 2011 4runner Limited and overall am VERY happy. Great rig. One beef I have (and I searched the forums but couldn't find other threads already) is cruise control. When I go up hills, it compensates and generally takes me 4-5 miles an hour above my set speed after the road flattens out. My 97 never did anything like this.
Do others have this problem? Is this unique to mine? I am assuming it does not have anything to do with my larger tires.
hey Mpaquette, have you been to Gluches up in Laurens?
sorry for teh thread jack.
I think the every 4runner and Tacoma (probably 100,000 as many 5th gens) since the early 2000s has had this same POS cruise control, but good luck.OK, I called Lexus parts and they said there was no transferrable part that would help the problem. He said it was in the programming. I will call him back tomorrow and see if he can duplicate the programming in the Lexus over to my 4 Runner. He suggested I call Toyota Corporate and make a file for the problem and get all my buddies to do the same. The more we call and complain the sooner a fix will be sent out. I stressed the fact that the car was accelerating on it's own upwards of a 7-10 MPH swing on the rolling hills in my area.
If you are interested, call and file a complaint as well. Maybe we (the little people) can cause a TSB to be sent out. Also, when you take it in to the dealer, ask when the regional rep will be in and that you would like to talk to him about it.
I will post up what I find out from the Lexus dealer. It may take a few days longer because I will have to get a service advisor to believe in me enough to have it checked out and not charge me for the assessment.
Stay Tuned :snacker:
Nothing I'm reading gives me any indication the cruise has changed from the 4th gen so I'll venture a post since I use the cruise a ton. It works better for me as a co-pilot than an auto-pilot.
The key for me to keeping the bad behavior mostly under control is frequent use of the steering wheel stalk. It's pretty much driving by hand which is not set and forget, but it's much easier than the foot accelerator. 2-4 spaced acceleration taps approaching hills and then subtract them going up with one for sure near the crest. It's turned into a game, or maybe it's the other way around, where I try to keep the transmission from unlocking or down shifting going up the hill.
Obviously, traffic conditions affect when this should be done, but in light traffic it works well. WAG is perhaps people who hate it most are expecting to set it and forget it. Can be a fun cruise, though. Tap the lever a couple of times to accelerate near the top of a hill and it's like a Six Flags ride.
