2011 OEM Audio is completely DOA...UPDATED

Got up this afternoon (yeh...kind of slept in) to run some post-NY errands and fired up the T4R. Odd -- no SiriusXM. In fact, no AM/FM/CD or BT phone function either. The entire audio system is dead. The display won't even light up. Anybody else ever have this happen? I ran several forum searches and can't find anything like it.

Taking it to Toyota of Plano first thing in the morning...

Please post more. I have not had this issue, but I did have an issue where my radio totaly locked up in bluetooth and I couldn not do anythign...once I turned the runner off and back on it started back

I dunno if you tried checking the fuses, but that is the first place I would look.

Yes, I checked the fuse box and everything seems to be fine. It's really odd. We just got back from a 1500 mile round trip to Ft. Benning and everything worked flawlessly. I parked in the garage for New Year's weekend and when I went out this afternoon -- no audio. I cannot power up the radio, CD, satellite or BT phone at all. Everything else is working fine. I've not tampered with any of the wiring (yet) for any mods or upgrades. I'm persuaded to think that maybe no one else has had this happen yet.

Given that I cannot find a cause (battery is fine, fuses are OK, and there's motive to suspect wiring as it's untouched), and unless somebody on the forum comes up with an idea, I'll take it in as a warranty item. If that's the route that I end up taking I will post what the service department finds.

I'm sure you tried, but let me ask the obvious question... you tried pushing the on-off button right (left hand dial push-in)?

The other option since you already checked the battery and fuses, is that the connector worked itself lose on the back of the head unit.

No harm, no foul. Yes I poked the button several times, wiggled the harness, jiggled the keys, started and killed the motor, replaced the fuse, slapped the dash, kicked the dog and cussed in Japanese. But all to no avail...

Hope you get it trouble shot quick and easily... Service department will likely simply swap out head units. that's what they do when you get a CD stuck in there as well.

No Audio

If you parked outside overnight anywhere it may help to double check the wires under the hood and maybe anywhere else you can access. Back in the 90's my A/C went out for no apparent reason (fan worked) and it turned out that a mouse had got into the wiring and chewed through whatever wire. I had parked outside overnight at a Bed and Breakfast place in Northern CA. Naturally, warranty did not cover.

Fortunately, it was parked inside so I'm pretty sure that no rodents have fed on the filaments...

We did have a squirrel get into the attic last year and attempt to chew through the deck adjacent to one of the exhaust fans. After 2-3 days of trying to bait and catch the little guy, I finally had to take him out with my 10-22 (with my son's truck out front with Skillet blaring disgustingly loud).

Good call. The service department from Toyota of Plano just called. They are replacing the head unit. The tech said it simply went out -- no other explanation. But they are putting in a new radio, under warranty of course, and that will be that.

Reminder that they don't always remember to swap CDs/DVDs for you, so make sure to get that out of there (map dvd too) while you have power to it.

I have had the issue where sometimes the head unit will not display anything, but the music will be playing. Seems like it happens when it is cold outside. I am going to bring this up at my next service - 30k miles ALREADY and only had this since October 2010!

Reminder that they don't always remember to swap CDs/DVDs for you, so make sure to get that out of there (map dvd too) while you have power to it.

I hope this doesn't turn into an issue like the Tundras had a few years back. radios going out, volume in and out, phantom tuning and no control whatsoever.

Try kicking the dog some more, that should do it.

Mine likes to randomly change inputs when I turn off ignition, I usually listen to just the iPod via USB, but sometime on restart its on xm or cd and occasionally off. Haven't had any problems with it changing while driving just on reignition. Plan on talking to the dealer at the first oil change.

The day the music died...

Well, after a week-long wait the new head unit arived. It took the dealer about two hours to switch it out and button everything back up. The only inconveniences were:

• the loss of all of my satellite and radio pre-sets
• the loss of satellite unit reception (my Sirius unit ID changed with the new unit and had to be reinitiated -- and the old unit had to be cancelled so that I wasn't billed on two accounts)
• the BT phone had to be re-paired and programmed anew
• and all of my contacts had to be re-entered (ugh)

The old unit had a small (mutt) scratch on the face that obstructed reading the digital letters at the right angle. The new unit is pristine. Have yet to hook up the Toshiba USB drive, but that should work fine. And though it may be just wishful thinking, it sure seems that the digital lettering is easier to read (and yes, I had the backlight turned all the way up previously).

Hats off to the full warranty -- didn't cost me a dime.
