Well just got a message from my dealer. He said that they pulled off the head and sent it out to get machined. Said it would not be done till end of next week. I havent agreed to anything as far as repair work so I am assuming that Toyota has agreed to warranty this work. I was told that the dealer was going to meet with the Toyota rep about warrantying the work I will follow up tomorrow to verify this because nobody said anything about how the meeting went. I dont know what kind of compression test they did. I was told that I had a leaky valve and next thing I know my head is off and out to be machined... Lets say they dont want to warranty the work. Do you guys think I have any recourse? The way I see it, this leaky valve issue would have started way before my 60k warranty was up. Car only has 63k on it. Do I have a leg to stand on with this though process? A valve doesnt go bad overnight does it. Clearly there was something messed up in the machining process or engine assembly that led to my leaky valve at 63k. Right?

Honestly I will be shocked if Toyota doesn't cover it as you're right this is not something that happens overnight if it's a leaky valve.

That's impressively clean for the state of dis-assembly that it's in but at the same time scary. I sure hope they can get it all back together again!

I've followed this thread since it started and hoped Toyota would find a sensor issue or a coilpack like a previous poster had suggested.

As long as the fuel is ignited, I'd have thought a leaky valve would just cause poor performance...not a dashboard that looks like a Christmas tree. Are knock sensors seeing it as pre-detonation?
A rare actual issue on a late model 4runner! Not something you see everyday - fortunately for us.

It will let air/fuel in/out at the wrong times, reduce cylinder pressure, and cause the knock sensors to see a misfire. So it's entirely possible. We ran into this every now and then on a Corolla or Camry; it's pretty rare.
So I went into the dealership this afternoon to pick up my truck. When I got there I was told that they poked a hole in my radiator... Apparently they will have a new radiator tomorrow and I "should" be able to get my car sometime tomorrow...

Picked my 4runner up this morning. Seems to run fine. No leaks. Toyota covered everything including a rental car for the month. Ill report back if I have any problems but hoping all is good. Only thing I am curious about is if I should dump it now while its fixed and get a new one or just assume that the work was all done property and I am good to go. Thoughts?

This just happened to my 2013 trail today. Was there ever a solution for the cause?? It happened randomly. The lights all just came on. Abs, brake, 4lo, crawl control, traction control. And I was just sitting at a stop light.
The 4runner is driving exactly the same. No changes. But the lights are concerning. And I don't want that to lead to greater issues.
So was there ever a solution found for why this happened or how to fix it?
