Newbie to the site.

I am in the hunt for a 2013 or 2014 for my gf. I have seen 2013 SR5's starting at 30k to 36k. My question to you all is what's a fair price for a base 2013 model and base 2014 model. I know its a lot of opinion vs opinion, but I don't wanna overpay. Any recommendations options, additions, what to get and not to get I would greatly appreciate. FYI doubt she will mod much.

Also, please post what you paid, year, model, options, etc.

As a fellow Justin and fellow 2013 4runner purchaser (this week), recommend searching "base price" for starters. I've found plenty of threads talking price and with all the option variability..if you just need an idea. Truecar.com

The obvious thing now that we're in late November is 2014s are on the lots so dealerships are highly motivated to make deals to get rid of their 2013 inventory, and in fact you can see billboards talking about deals & rebates on 2013s... plus you're essentially buying a car that is almost 1 yr old so you can give them a low offer.
Just depends on if you're in love with the 2014 or you want a great deal.... i.e.: just throwing out a random number here but say you find a 2013 SR5 on a lot; offer them say around $28k, they might take it.

If you don't have a trade, it makes things a lot easier.

I'd start emailing all the dealerships within a 3-4hr radius and see where you end up. You obviously don't want to play MRSP and, as the new year approaches, you're probably looking for invoice or even under. I understand that dealers will receive rebates from the manufacturer to help clear out leftovers and thus lowering the dealer's cost and giving them more room to negotiate.

This time of year, there might be slim pickings on 2013's. The lowest priced ones around my area are in the $35K range and the dealer will take around $3K off of that to get it in the $32K range. This is about where they were priced in August when I bought mine +/- $1K. If you can't find one in your area, a dealer may be able to locate one a state or two away and have it driven over. Good Luck.

Thanks for all the responses. So I sat in the stealership yesterday for 3 hours discussing options. No 1. I do have a trade in that I still owe on. Besides the point here is exactly what they offered me.

The 2014 4Runner Trail Edition:Barcelona Red Metallic, Graphite Fabric Interior
MSRP: $35,725
Options: $1,583
Manuf, Delv, Proc $915
Total: $38,223

He printed out the invoice of course and it was at
$36,027 and he added $450 for some other random shit.
He said his bottom line would be $36,477 plus TTL.

Is this a good deal on a TE? I know I mentioned SR5 above, but we ended up liking the trail better.
What's your thought now that I have info?

Here is the MSRP listing:

If you want to make the best deal possible, do this:

Research your current vehicle to get a price you would like to have on trade.
Take your posted data above and pick a price you think is fair.
Figure a DIFFERENCE price you feel comfortable with.
Tell the dealer you don't care about the price of the new vehicle nor the worth of your trade in. You want to negotiate using a difference price.

Ex: My current vehicle is worth $15,000 to me. The new one I want is worth $35,000 to me. The difference is $20,000. Tell the dealer you want to trade for $20,000 difference. By negotiating this way, It puts the dealer in the position of moving numbers around to hit your target. Also, you don't care if he lowballs you on the trade and gives you invoice on your new vehicle. I will usually pick the highest worth of my trade and the lowest possible cost of the new vehicle, calculate the difference and start there. I learned this a long time ago. Now, after getting the best possible difference, then work on interest rates. This is the simplest, most pain free way to buy a new vehicle. You usually get the best deal too.

For a '13 now I'd expect at least $1K under invoice on Edmunds including the BS doc fees. Get an OTD price before you go to pick it up. Do not negotiate at the dealership. Get the OTD price, take a check from your lender. Don't trade if all possible.

I bought my '13 LE in July and should have walked out. Had to fight over multiple attempts to add fees, and they knew how I work. Unethical comes to mind.

You can get a '13 4 Runner way, way below sticker if you do the right research and are willing to travel.

I picked up a new '13 less then two weeks ago, and was prepared to fly to my specific color with the required options...at the biggest discount. During my search I found plenty of choices well under $2,000. below sticker, and even some over $3,000. below.

Luckily I only had to take a short flight to pick up a Silver TE with NAV and KDSS having a sticker price of $40,970. My price ended up at $36,750. I was also very lucky in that Toyota had for some reason picked that very region to offer a $2,000. rebate just a couple days before. The dealer didn't even know about it.

I did have to pay tax on the $36,750. price, but was then given a head start $2,000. down payment.

Good luck on whatever you buy !

So you say sticker price meaning the MSRP, Invoice or Total at the bottom of the sticker? Sticker on the one we are looking at is 38223 so your saying 3k under that? correct? Our offer was 36477, which according to them is just $500 over the invoice they presented to me. This is also a 14' TE none KDSS which the gf wouldn't know the difference in all the bells an whistles.

So is the offer of 36,477 good? Should I haggle more or take it?

Question two should I opt to get a 13' TE for a few thousand under invoice?
What is your opinion and if you were sitting in my shoes today what would you do?

I just researched a little earlier in the week, on autotrader i just searched for 2013 models only, alot of new ones came up and a few used ones, alot of the new ones were 4x4 sr5's around 31-32k, it would say the msrp right above it on several dealers ads and they were around $35-36k, so it looks like several dealers in my area are putting some discounts on them... i thought that was a pretty decent price for a new 13 4x4, used 2010-12's are goign for 25-28k around here, so i would be better off buying new.
