I gave up on the dealer's inventory when looking for my Trail. I found a dealer who was willing to do an order the way I wanted it. I ordered on July 3, it was built on Sept. 4 and I picked it up on Sept. 28. 3 months total. I was able to get it for 5.7% off of MSRP.

They have 3 13's and 2 12's on the lot

They don't have any at the moment, but usually only stock a few at most.
I know for the Cape this is about it for the dealers. I think the top I saw was 6 or 7 at any dealer at any given point. I think they look for feedback from interested buyers and direct vehicles like those to their lots. I know I told the dealer what I was looking for (specs, options, color) and told him to let me know when they arrived so I could look at them. This was back in 09' when the closest one was 600 miles from me! He called a week later saying 'my' 4R was there. It was the exact 4R I would have ordered, so obviously they had to find one and have it directed to their lot so I could see it and hopefully buy it...which obviously I did.
These dealers are not a far drive if any of the ones above interest you.
