2013's being built this month (so they say)

Oops, yes, thanks for clarifying - meant the second-gen Tundra.
The first gen, introduced in '99 as a 2000 wasn't all that bad either, but again 7 years between models. Heck, I even liked the T100.
Guess we'll see a new Tundra next year as a 2014.

Increased torque. Hopes of one day doing expeditions in countries where Diesel is more common than gasoline.

I wouldn't take a loss on my T4R as I have quite a bit of equity in it already.

Equity? You took a loss the moment you left the lot and continue to lose your so called equity as cars are not investments. They're expenses.

Bit late to clarify my point here, but another poster mentioned my concern: I've got a LOT of money into modifications of my truck (not to mention a lot of my personal time as well). Starting over for a turbo diesel is most definitely not worth it to me. The truck does and goes wherever I need it to. Unless you're towing on a daily basis or run a mail route with your 4Runner I don't see the benefit of switching out for a turbo diesel other than the "cool" factor. If it's solely for the cool factor then have at it; I can't fault you there!

Fuel economy. I drive 15,000 miles per year. At 15 mpg, that's about $4k per year in gas. The Mercedes ML350 is rated 20/27 mpg. If Toyota could get something close, that might get interesting when I replace my 4Runner in a few years -- I've got 120k on it, so eventually I'll replace it.

But while I wish Toyota would offer a turbodiesel 4Runner, I doubt they ever will.

You're assuming diesel costs the same as 87 octane with that logic.

Even driving 15,000 miles a year won't offset initial cost of a diesel or the higher price of fuel and higher maintenance cost if and when something breaks.

No, I'm not. Right now in Boston, diesel costs about 7% more than regular grade gas.

The ML350 BlueTEC (diesel) is rated 20/27. The ML350 gas is rated 18/23. Let's assume the overall fuel economy is in the middle, so the diesel is 23.5 and the gas is 20.5. That's an improvement of 14.6%. The savings per year, driving 15000 miles, isn't huge, about $170. And, unfortunately, Mercedes is charging a premium of $3k for the diesel. So the economics aren't great.

That said, when I'm getting 15 mpg now, 23.5 mpg looks pretty compelling.

But given a choice between a hybrid and a diesel, I'll take a diesel every time.

I think you just proved my point for me.

Hi,

I just joined the forum to post this.

I bought a 2012 Limited yesterday. I know the 2013's are around the corner however all the research I did showed that there won't be any updates. One dealer said I could "reserve" a 2013 that was due to be built late september but the fact that I got a $43,215 unit for 39k made most of the decision for me.

I had a trade situation as well and I didn't think another model year roll against my bmw would help so I pulled the trigger.

I wanted the Mag Grey. the dealer had to trade for it and didn't alter the deal or try to upcharge me for the trade. I got it with 108 miles. It has 400 today.

So far i'm enjoying it. Not pleased that i can get my calendar from my iphone on the entune but i'm sure thats coming so its all good.

years ago i had a 99 t4r sr5 5speed. loved it. That memory brought me back.

!

Welcome to the forum Digitalwiz. Happy to hear about your new purchase. Let me be the first to say, however, that until you post a photo of your new baby, many on this forum (not me) will haunt you, flame you, spear you and if they find out where you live, paint derogatory remarks on your house.....so get to posting and let the mods begin. Be safe. :D

To add to the drama ,a Toyota salesman on another site that I pm'd to check and keep me updated, said that they just got in 2013 sales brochures for every Toyota............................................................................................................except the 4Runner.:crybaby:

:lookout: Crystal ball is on the blink again but I'm thinking they are going to give a second engine option again and taking longer to get it certified....:reddance:...........lol

signed....the eternal optimist!

So I've avoided this thread just so I wouldn't have to see this being suggested....:redbrick: So which V8 do your balls forsee oh wise one??

^ So, would you start all over again with a 2013 V8?
This all depends on Harper's balls :lmao:

Lets not overlook the obvious of having it and rubbing your face in the fact that you don't.
:boxer::p Am I missing something here, whats the big draw of the turbo diesel?
