2013's being built this month (so they say)

I wouldn't buy another 5th Gen unless I totaled the one I have or I put over 100k miles on it just because they put out a turbo diesel. I'm not one to talk about wasting cash on vehicles, but what exactly are you guys using to justify the thought of trading in your truck for a turbodiesel option? What do you see the benefits as being, and how can you justify the loss?

That said, I'm hopeful they'll release HIDs that will be backward compatible with all 5th Gen models. :snacker:

Increased torque. Hopes of one day doing expeditions in countries where Diesel is more common than gasoline.

I wouldn't take a loss on my T4R as I have quite a bit of equity in it already.

The only way you wouldnt take a loss is if you sold it for more than you have into it.

I'm the biggest optimist around, but I wouldn't hold my breath even for such changes as HID lamps or LED tails - despite the competition leaving Toyota farther behind every model year. Heck, look at the Tacoma, now about 50 years old and still without heated side mirrors. Toyota simply doesn't move very fast, even less so when it comes to trucks. The Tundra, introduced in 2007, is pretty much the same Tundra we have some six years later, except for the introduction of the 4.6L and 6spd — a painfully obvious and simple choice to make available on the 4R. Sorry to be a downer, but all the obvious changes and improvements everyone here has been shouting at Toyota to install or fix will probably fall on the corporately collective deaf ears we've all come to bemoan for years.

I heard-:

Cup holders on the rear bumper.
AC Conditioned seats.
Power tailgate.
Projector headlights.
LED rear lights.
Memory front seats.
LED's under the hood.
22' wheels for the LE.
7 speed gear box.
Turbo Diesel.
TE has factory winch option and better under body protection.
Rear AC vents.
and 35 MPG.

I read it on the inter-web so it must be true.....Right?:thumb3:

With the right negotiator, the loss would be minimal. Around here used 4R's go for within 1500 or so of a new one.

And don't forget a better trailer hitch or at least placing the towing electrical connections where one can actually plug something in without getting on your knees..........

2013 should be the mid cycle refresh on a 7 year life cycle correct?

I think it'll just be projector headlights, new grill, and more lube on all those squeaky bits

Let's face it folks - the 4R does not sell in enough volume to cost-justify other than superficial changes - changes which do not require EPA recertification (ala new engines/trannies), and/or other costly testing (NHTSA, or IIHS).

In reality, the 4R sells to a niche market. The vast majority of that niche are going to (did) buy it with or without the aforementioned wants-and-wishes.

Would I trade for a 2013 with a 4.6L? Dunno. If I drove it and it knocked my socks off, I would. Then again, I've got my SR5 dialed in now (tires, shocks, lights, etc) - starting over has other additional costs.

There's no way I'd start over. The loss would be significant for anyone who modded. The gain would simply be for some more horses and a bit of torque? I'd rather wait for the super charger in a year or 4 even. That's how I would "refresh" my ride.
