Increased torque. Hopes of one day doing expeditions in countries where Diesel is more common than gasoline.
I wouldn't take a loss on my T4R as I have quite a bit of equity in it already.
Equity? You took a loss the moment you left the lot and continue to lose your so called equity as cars are not investments. They're expenses.
Unless you're towing on a daily basis or run a mail route with your 4Runner I don't see the benefit of switching out for a turbo diesel other than the "cool" factor.
Fuel economy. I drive 15,000 miles per year. At 15 mpg, that's about $4k per year in gas. The Mercedes ML350 is rated 20/27 mpg. If Toyota could get something close, that might get interesting when I replace my 4Runner in a few years -- I've got 120k on it, so eventually I'll replace it.
But while I wish Toyota would offer a turbodiesel 4Runner, I doubt they ever will.
You're assuming diesel costs the same as 87 octane with that logic.
No, I'm not. Right now in Boston, diesel costs about 7% more than regular grade gas.
The ML350 BlueTEC (diesel) is rated 20/27. The ML350 gas is rated 18/23. Let's assume the overall fuel economy is in the middle, so the diesel is 23.5 and the gas is 20.5. That's an improvement of 14.6%. The savings per year, driving 15000 miles, isn't huge, about $170. And, unfortunately, Mercedes is charging a premium of $3k for the diesel. So the economics aren't great.
That said, when I'm getting 15 mpg now, 23.5 mpg looks pretty compelling.
But given a choice between a hybrid and a diesel, I'll take a diesel every time.
To add to the drama ,a Toyota salesman on another site that I pm'd to check and keep me updated, said that they just got in 2013 sales brochures for every Toyota............................................................................................................except the 4Runner.:crybaby:
:lookout: Crystal ball is on the blink again but I'm thinking they are going to give a second engine option again and taking longer to get it certified....:reddance:...........lol
signed....the eternal optimist!
This all depends on Harper's balls :lmao:^ So, would you start all over again with a 2013 V8?
:boxer:Lets not overlook the obvious of having it and rubbing your face in the fact that you don't.
Ya Philly:rockthrow: :lmao: :lmao:Bit late to clarify my point here, but another poster mentioned my concern: I've got a LOT of money into modifications of my truck (not to mention a lot of my personal time as well). Starting over for a turbo diesel is most definitely not worth it to me. The truck does and goes wherever I need it to. Unless you're towing on a daily basis or run a mail route with your 4Runner I don't see the benefit of switching out for a turbo diesel other than the "cool" factor. If it's solely for the cool factor then have at it; I can't fault you there!
