2014 4-Runner Rumours

assuming the economy doesn't go in the tank again and Chrysler goes out of business because there won't be any bailout money this time around
well if Obama gets re elected he can jst take it from medicare... I mean that's how funded other things right? lol

It's already funded via the Affordable Care Act. That afforded him several tax hikes that are covered between page 306.212 and 452.123. But like you and I, the rest of the government hasn't read those pages yet either.

I wanna less cartoony 6th gen with a v8 and w/o headlights or taillights that stick out a foot from the body. And for Petes sakes lower the bottom of the windows. How do you see out of those 5th gens!

Forget about windows, they will be only smaller - weight/cost reducing measure.

I hear its going to be a V-10 hybrid that gets 50mpg. And its going to have tank treads and a roof mounted Gatling Gun with laser sights and night vision.

oh forgot to mention the shark tank in the back.

I love the look of the 5th gen, is like a caricature of the 3rd gen, and its bad-ass.

For what its worth, Oct 2012 news about Toyota Diesels

Check out this article about Toyota and their diesel development. Doesn't sound too promising for the 4runner to get one--to my chagrin.

Toyota Says It's Beefing-Up Its Diesel Portfolio - WOT on Motor Trend
See the article here on MotorTrend.com

Here is a Feb 2013 article about the RAV4 diesel that has rolled out in the UK/AUS scene. Check it out here!

A buddy of mine works for Toyota Japan and he say's the 2015 will still have the BOF, but the major change is a 4.3 diesel smiler to the blue tech of MB, also it will have LED taillights, 4 wheel steering and an option of a TRD super charger .....:wow:

a supercharger on a diesel??

The reason the 5th gen runners have cheaper interior quality, no LED Tails, No Projector Headlights, No Center Diff is because toyota had to cut production costs to keep them at a specific price point. We won't likely see newer models come out with HIDs and LED tails, or any other niceties in future models, unless they raise the price significantly, which is unlikely, or they figure out how to build them for less, which is also unlikely.

We can just look forward to cheaper and cheaper versions, with less options as time goes on, until toyota finally decides to discontinue the 4runner.

If only toyota would offer offer these with a D4D, then consumers might start gaining interest again in a rugged body on frame SUV, that actually gets decent mileage...Of course that would probley increase the cost of the 4runner too much.

I don't think it has anything to do with costs. They want 4-Runner owners to move up to the Lexus 460 where they have even greater profit margins. They are already producing the items you suggest in high volumes and the likely product cost is less that $1K. I mean the prius has LEDs. They could easily increase the costs of the Limited with all the goodies and leave those who cann't affort it walk away with a trail or SR5.

Or they want to increase profit margins on their 4runner sales, or possibly they with the rising costs of parts and labor, they want to be able to maintain their profit margin, and keep the 4runner at a competitive price.

All car manufactures are making their cars cheaper, and making options that use to be standard, a cost upgrade. Notice how BMWs and Audis no longer come standard with HID lights and LED Tails? I see BMWs and Audis all the time with Halogen lights....

The Prius (And most other hybrids) have HID/LED headlights and tails for efficiency reasons, otherwise they would use the cheaper halogen tech.

Quality is lacking in the 5th Gen? Don't think so!

I wouldn't trade my 2013 for a brand new 3rd or 4th Gen.

I also care less about the HID headlight / LED tail lights too. I prefer NOT to pay a premium for those.
