Absolutely! You should love your 2013. It's just there are more people loving the 2014s than the 2013s. :biggrin2:

I like the re-design, just having fun... my wife on the other hands thinks the SR5/Trail looks like they are crying. I honestly didn't expect to see it, but there it is.
 
Toyota earned this award fair and square. Now I see they are doing the gaping fang mouth treatment to the Lexus line too. :(

no surprises here. just another entry in the towering pile of evidence that logic, numbers, and sense barely move the needle when it comes to human behavior. our prefrontal cortex is that skinny guy on the beach our amygdala kicks sand at as he strides by with a girl on each arm.

Well, to each his own, but IF you are right (Big IF!), then there must be a lot of people out there who love "ugly", and have absolutely no taste!
Statistics can be bent/manipulated to suit our whims, but the numbers themselves don't lie.
Obviously, a significant number of people think the re-design is a move in the right direction. (Good thing our Runners last so long - you can hang on to your earlier gen. Runner, and maybe never have to buy the new style.)

I have no room to talk because my daily driver is so ugly it should have made the list too, but sometimes it isn't all about looks. Personally, I hate the looks of the 2014+ 4Runner, but I also hate the way our Nissan Leaf looks. But it's a great car to drive, so I deal with it.

Have you ever noticed that 4Runner owners think that whatever generation they own is the best one? I think that speaks volumes to how well these vehicles were built. Whatever gen you have and love, keep loving it.
 
Agreed - I like all the previous 4Runner generations, and I have learned to really like the 2014/15.
I will probably hate the 6th gen. when it comes out! LOL!
 
I have owned a 1996, 2008, and now 2014. I like all body styles of runners, but I have to say the 14 is my fav. Haters gona hate which is fine, if we didn't like the look we sure wouldn't have bought it. Numbers don't lie.
 
Only time tells if a design is aesthetically pleasing. Many designs are timeless (others, not so much).

The new 4runner is a tricky one. They clearly turned many off, but got the attention of others at the same time. I'm on the fence still. I hated it when it first came out and specifically looked for a pre-2014 truck, but it has grown on me. Once you put on an aftermarket bumper they all pretty much look the same anyway.
 
When the '14 first came out, I thought it was one of the ugliest vehicles on the road. Just hideous! Then I bought one...now I honestly think it's the best looking front end on an SUV. Go figure.
 
The article is not well written; it did not specifically state the 4r was the sixth ugliest, it stated in ranked sixth out of the cars offered the way I read it.

From the article;

"The design repulsed respondents the most out of the 10 models included."

This to me shows they just offered 10 models to evaluated.

Using the article's scale, 10 was the worst, and the 4r fell in at 5.13, which is in the middle of the scale.

The link to the main article did not work, so could not read if there is more details.

I like the new look, I did not like the 4r too much until the fifth gen came out, and the refresh was just an unexpected bonus when I finally was able to buy one.

No, not really. The pre-facelift 5th gens were ugly too. LOL

Seriously though, styling is subjective. Some people like the 5th gen 4Runner. Some people like the Pontiac Aztek too. Or the old AMC Pacer. The list goes on and on....there have always been ugly vehicles and there will always be people who think they look just fine. Personally, I have high hopes for the 6th gen because I think Toyota really dropped the ball with the 5th gen styling. Others may or may not agree.

I was skeptical of the design but after I went in to buy unpainted F & R bumper covers to hand over to my Line-X guy.. I see why Toyota went this way. When I saw the breakdown diagram, it must take about 60 seconds to put on the entire facia(s). A few clips & screws here and there, and its done!

I was surprised the front nose cone was only around $350 and the rear bumper was around $250.

That's one way of looking at it. For sure, those are significant numbers. On the flip side, those numbers are FAR less than many of the other midsize SUVs on the market, even those that are considered direct competitors with the 4Runner. It makes me really wonder how much better the 5th gen would have sold if it had nicer styling. And by nicer, I mean styling that the vast majority of consumers would consider attractive.

And without starting a 5th gen vs other gen war, I know for a fact that the last two generations of 4Runner sold far better. Yeah I know....different times and different economies...and that's true. But still, I'd say again to look at how 4Runner competitors did themselves when you compare their sales from generation to generation.

I agree. Take the new Jeep Cherokee for example. To my eyes (and many who agree with me), the new Cherokee is ugly as sin. But Jeep can't keep them on the lot. They are right up there with the Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee as the best-selling Jeep. I still think they are incredibly ugly though.
