Remote Car Starter for 2014 4Runner
This Thread was a life saver while I waited for 3 months until my 2014 4Runner arrived at the dealership. I've had it for one week now, as of tonight, and I LOVE it. I waited for the SR5 Premium with the Nautical Blue Exterior and the Sand Beige interior. I'm very happy!
I do have one question that hopefully someone out there can help me with. I live in Michigan and within the next month, it's going to be really cold and snowy here. On my wifes past two company cars, they've had a remote car starter factory installed. When I was taking delivery of my 2014 4Runner from the Toyota dealership, they informed me that the remote car starter hardware for the 2014 4Runner was not available yet. They couldn't give me a estimated date of when it would be available. Has anyone out there who has purchased a 2014 4Runner heard anything about the Remote Car Starter package? I do have the heated seats with the premium package but it seems to take awhile for the heater to get warm air flowing. A remote car starter would come in real handy here in Michigan! I hope it doesn't take too long!

lol its gonna be way to cold to do mods. its already in the single digits here, and suppose to hit 0F during the nite with wind chill of around -10F.
will have to wait until next year, late spring/summer as our last snow fall is usually april sometimes may.

should be the same as the 13 I think. but since they actually did a premium sub model they are probably just making sure.
now on the warden's Tacoma we use a compustar remote start 2way 9000 series.

I did look but they don't have the 2014 4runner yet, but they have 2 different specs on the 2013 depending if you have the smart key system or not.

Before I purchased my 2014 TE, I was test driving one at a dealer. He demoed the remote start for me. I don't remember exactly how he did it, but it was a series of button pushes on the remote. He also said that that particular vehicle had been delayed delivery to their dealership because of an issue with its remote start. I have not tried it on my own, however. None of this probably helps you out - but my 2 cents.

Skip the remote start and instead get a block heater. Plug it in, set to a timer that runs 3 to 4 hours before you leave in the mornings. Your engine and your oil will be nice and warm when you start the truck, and it won't need to run more than three minutes before blowing warm air. You'll save gas, not have to worry about electronics, and reduce wear on your V6 —*yet still be just as comfy.

that works great when your at home. not so well when your at the mall, movies, dinner, work (if they have outlets to plug in), etc.

I ordered my 2014 LE beginning of October and the remote start option was accepted by Toyota. It is currently on the slow boat now here to the USA. But the LE also has the push button start, so not sure if this impacts the remote start system used. Also I am not sure if this is a factory or port installed option.

I will tell you this. The dunlop tires that came on my 14' trail are absolutely useless. Drove it in the rain for the first time the other day and almost died due to hydroplaining on the highway. I cant believe toyota would put such a crappy tire. I really dont want to spend a thousand bucks on tires after buying a brand new truck but I have no choice.

IMO i would never buy a factory auto start, way to limiting on features.
i like the range on the warden's tacoma for her compustar remote start. up to 1 mile range (more like 1/4 mile best case real world), 2 way remote, can open the door and the engine wont die, can remote start then pull the key out.
only thing that will kill the engine w/o the key is if you hit the brake.

Check the air pressure in them ... many members have reported overinflated tires on new 4Rs.

I realize their is a thread for introductions, but I figured this would be a good place to start. My wife and I recently ditched our 2008 Platinum Toyota Sequoia and picked up a 2014 Limited 4 Runner. The Sequoia was great, but really big for what we need (Just moved to a big city from a small town). I've always loved these, and used to have a 2002 back in the day. I'm new to this forum but have spent lots of time on Audi/Subaru Forums. I'm going to try and keep the Mod bug away on this one, but I say that every time.
I look forward to learning lots about this model.
Now some mandatory pictures.

Our factory ordered LE came last week with the remote start installed. It's a port install. We still don't have our cargo crossbars though.

When I picked up my 2013 Trail in February I had the new tires waiting for me at the tire shop. Nitto Terra Grapplers in stock size. Swapped tires with less than 50 miles. Bought the Nittos for a little over $600 and sold the factory tires two days later for $450.
A little over $200 for piece of mind was money well spent. It's a shame to have to dump money in a brand new ride, but I've been very happy with my decision.
Just some food for thought.
