2014 SR5 Running Boards

Greetings everyone, I am new to this great forum.

Last week I bought a 2014 SR5 and I am looking for an all black running board option. The dealer tells me that the TE boards won't fit the SR5 but I have seen a few SR5s with all black boards.

Does anyone have a part # for the all black SR5 boards?

Most everyone here is going to recommend you get a set of Sliders. Much better than running boards. I'm new here so I cannot recommend which ones are best, but I have learned enough already to know that sliders is what you are going to want.

I did research first. I may have missed it but I have yet to find a definitive answer on the subject. I saw a few people that went with the ones that have the chrome strip but I prefer the all black.

The main point of my post is that I have seen pics of what appear to be SR5s with the all black RBs. If that is the case I was hoping ONE of those people would respond with a part #.

I dont have a part number, but the wifes 14 had all black running boards, they are called rigid running boards on the sticker.

Thank you. I specifically mentioned that to the dealers I have spoken with and they all say they don't fit the SR5.

My guess at this point is that they are a port installed item that requires some modification (drilling, etc). If they aren't a direct bolt on item Toyota doesn't say that they fit, this is my only guess at this point.

I might just order those if they will let me and see what happens.

you will most likely need trail rocker panels or you will have to cut your exsiting rocker panel to make it fit like someone did on here. i think shrockworks gives you the trail rocker panels with the purchase of their sliders. some company also sells spacers that will help the bar clear the rockers as well. if you find steps, bars, or sliders that require no modification you find out they are lower to the ground than you would like.

For good step options on sliders look at Shrockworks, Metaltech/OPOR, or Budbuilt. All much tougher than plastic and not really any more than OEM running boards.

Here are my shrockworks on a 2011 (2010-2013 need rocker mods).

Yeah it is my understanding that prior to 2014 the lower panel was different, larger, etc. Just from an appearance standpoint the TE and SR5 seem to be the same shape and the LE has some additional panel on the bottom that requires more clearance from a running board.

I will do a search for these as I really like the looks as long as the price is in the ballpark.

Probably around the $600 mark shipped. But note it takes 3-4 months to get them and all hand made in Houston TX. Well worth the wait and a top tier product for sure.

I did not find any part numbers on the running boards, no stickers, nothing, just some random "R" in circles.
Only found these numbers on plastic pieces that attach to the running board by the rear tires.

yeah my next upgrade when I can afford it will be these shrockworks sliders w/o the rocker panel addon.


~$701 after shipping.

then hopefully I can get someone to buy the old ones for 1/2 price of the OEM ones. that would cut the cost of the new one's by 1/2.

The Rigid Running Boards (option code KH) bolt up to the 2014 SR5's with no modification required.

I bought an SR5 that off the lot last November. It was equipped exactly as I would've ordered it - trim level, color, options - minus the running boards. I figured it would be a piece of cake to order them from Toyota after the fact.

As it turns out, the KH boards are not available through Toyota's accessory catalog. Trying to order a set through a dealership's parts department is a huge headache - they'll get confused and try to sell you the silver-trimmed accessory running boards, or tell you that the boards don't fit an SR5. I was finally able to get a parts guy understand what I wanted, and he was able to pull up a schematic of the running boards showing all the required hardware and part numbers and everything. However, even though the KH boards are a port-installed option, there is no easy way to order them as a kit, especially at anywhere near the $345 MSRP. The only way I found to get the things from Toyota is to order them through the collision catalog (i.e., as replacement parts) but the cost is exorbitant - over $900, IIRC.

I thought about going with sliders, but I thought they might be overkill for me. I really just wanted a step so that my boy could get in and out of the truck more easily. And I liked that the plastic is non-skid, versus the many sliders that are bare metal. And a lot of sliders required welding, and decent ones seem to start in the $500-$600 range. Finally, I like that the KH running boards have a pattern that matches the nonskid area of the rear bumper. It honestly makes no sense to me why Toyota doesn't just list these in their accessory catalog.

I was finally able to pick up a set from a forum member here. I guess his truck came from the dealer with them and he didn't like them, or was going to go with sliders or something. I paid under $300 for them, shipped. So I'd suggest searching the For Sale section here, you might get lucky.

Same experience I had with dealer. Kept on pushing the silver ones telling me that's the only one that Toyota offered as a kit, the KH would be separate parts and run over $1000. I took it as a sign to get some shrockworks sliders with tread plate, overkill for now but this way I'm all set down the road when my wife's truck becomes our family's offroad/expedition vehicle.... replacing our beloved 98 in another 20 years or so

Well that is a kick in the pants for sure. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me either. I like the Rigid boards for all the reasons mentioned. Maybe I will get lucky as well and find someone selling them. If not I think the shrockworks are a pretty good option too. Maybe a bit of overkill for my use but I do like the looks.

Nice Bimmer too! I am a bimmer fan first but use Toyota's as my daily drivers. I have 2 for now until the wife caves in and lets me get another.
