2014 T4R TE Radio Malfunction ?

Good Day All,
So I have been having issued with my stock radio/navigation system. It seems to keep disconnecting my phone from bluetooth and resetting itself (2 time at once) while I am in the middle of a drive. Nothing specific seems to trigger it, but it has been going on for almost a year.

Toyota says the radio needs a software update that is going to run me close to $200 and it is not guaranteed it would fix the problem.

Apparently extended warranty does not cover radios and I am just in need of guidance on how to do the update myself.

Any ideas mighty crew?

Is yours not under warranty? My tundra does/did the same thing While running press and hold the radio power on button for about 15 seconds. It does a reboot similar to holding an iPhone button down. Temp fixed mine.

I have a 15 Trail with the mid level radio & it does weird stuff once in a while.
Occasionally, the screen turns all black until I hit a hard button. I took it to the dealership while it was happening & the recorded it on a telephone & did an "update" to the radio. When I asked if this would update the nav, he said "no, the car is too new"???? I think these radios are like computers now ,which is unnecessary & overly complex. I've attached my link below...
