2014 Tep rear bumper repair

So I bought my vehicle not at a Toyota dealer so the STEALER decided to "try" to fix the rear bumper... well they did not do a good job whatsoever...

Any advice on how to repair this part without going to the dealership?
Any does anyone have an idea what caused this to happen on the left side of the bumper only?

When mine does that I just give it a good whack and the clip pops back in, but I think mine comes from the steel bumper hitting it while flexing.

Edit: Was it rear ended?

I dont think so. Carfax says its been in no accidents.
Ive whacked it a few times but it will just pop back out every time just, like what the picture looks like.

Mine pops out any time its hit by something like a tree branch. Always pops back in easy.

All 4 of my fender flares are warped REALLY bad from known rust control dripless oil. They've all been removed, cleaned, new clips, new ultra high bond tape, 3m adhesion promoter primer- you name it. I went all out. They just continue to pull off of the vehicle. Like 1/2" gaps at the top.

The replacement price was astronomical, so I went with bushwackers ��

Sometimes the piece of plastic that receives the clips break---- actually, usually these break when you try to remove them the first time. 2-part plastic epoxy is a lifesaver in this case.

No it was not undercoated. Who knows what happened. Came from Nevada. It was traded in by the previous owner. Than I traded my 2010 rav4 for this guy. Its not terrible!! Thanks for the advice, I will definitely try that!

There's a piece of plastic behind the cover there that holds the lip in place. Go to the dealer, tell him you need that plastic piece and fix it. Shouldn't be more than a few bucks.

Probably bumped at walmart or backed into something. Have seen lots of front and rear bumpers that won't stay clipped in right due to those things happening and tearing up the tab on the bumper.

If you don't want to go to the dealer just go to a good local body shop.... In and out in less than 30 min I'll bet...

it's just the retaining clips, as others have said. remove the rear mudflap and pull that panel toward you to release it and get a look at what's really going on behind it.

you may be able to bend/massage the clip(s) back into a state where they hold fast properly. barring that, you can improvise: some adhesive, a shim, etc.
