2015 hood flex help!!

My 2015 4R hood flexes.
It has a fake hood scoop.
I don't at all care that it does flex.

[Sometimes I wonder if these posts are for real.]

Just curious have you done so? During my recent road trip I noticed it more than usual (likely because after 10hrs on Interstate 90 there is not much else to look at). Thinking about trying this but am not confident it will make much of a difference. Don't think it would make it worse but just not sure the juice is worth the squeeze. If you have done so I would be curious if you could see a difference.

Edit: This is the "worst problem" my Toyota has....hahahaha

I've had the hood vinyl covered for quite a while now. Wonder if that's preventing it? But I never noticed it before that either so...

Where is it flexing exactly? The middle? The trailing edge or leading edge?

One thing people don't generally notice is that the rubber stops for the hood in the front on the left and right sides are adjustable by turning them and they should be snug when the hood closes. If they aren't then yes the hood can rock a bit and may cause flexing...

It flexes in the middle closest to the dash at speeds above 70mph. I don't believe the flex is caused by road vibration… I want to say its wind turbulence. Like I said it doesn't seem to be as bad on the SR5. I know I am being picky here fellow 4runner faithful.. but I bought a brand new car and I would expect more from Toyota as my 2006 was the best car I have ever owned. I guess if I keep it dirty and not shiny it won't bother me as much!:evil:

I notice it on the road too, but the carwash dryers scare me! Don't want to take it through them anymore for fear of my hood turning into a bowl! OK, slight exaggeration, but the flex under the dryers does make me nervous.

Just wait until you use the rear wiper, talk about annoying.
 
I propose that more people notice the hood flex if they sit high enough to see the rear edge of the hood.
 
Normal.

If this problem keeps you up at night, then you must not have any real issues to worry about -- which means you're doing quite well in life. Get out there and enjoy your 4Runner. You can't cure normal.
 
Just came home from vacation yesterday. I always had hood flexing on big bumps but going down interstate 15 80 mph toward Vegas a big wind storm came up and was heading into 20-30 mph winds. The hood was flexing around so much I thought it was going to fly right off the 4runner. I never in my 60 years had a vehicle that did this. It does not seem to hurt anything but the wife was driving and she was bothered by it. It does not inspire confidence in her.
 
The hood serves no structural purpose; it is an aerodynamic and aesthetic cover for the engine compartment.

If Toyota had used thicker sheet metal for the hood and doors, there would be even more crying about lack of power and poor mpgs.
 
I've never noticed the hood flex. Perhaps the bends for the scoop act as a stiffener in the center area.

Anyway, I've never seen a hood flex like my old '64 409 Impala when under acceleration ... as it so often was!:whoo:
 
You think the 4Runner has hood flex? My '01 Diesel Excursion hood wobbled hard on the freeway.... 4Runner doesn't hold a candle to that beast. I swear screws would just vibrate out of the interior.

If you can drive 80 mph into a 30 mph head wind you've got more power than most SUVs. :whoo:

We were driving south on the 15 through Lost Wages on Sunday around 1:00 pm as well. I didn't notice any wind but the traffic was horrendous. I said to my wife, "Lots of losers leaving Lost Wages".

There was a bus that burned in the middle of town that brought traffic to a standstill. Then farther south toward the Calif/Nevada border at Primm there was a fatality investigation blocking 3 out of 4 lanes (2 out of 3?) all morning that still backed up traffic at around 2:00 pm. Farther down the 15 southbound on a steep incline traffic came to a near stop again. Air temp varied from 103 to 109 degrees F and I sat watching the radiator temp gauge rising. I wanted to pull over and let the car cool but the traffic was probably going to persist for hours. In Baker it was 116 degrees but the traffic was moving so temp was okay.

The only reason I have to go to Vegas is because there are not many ways to get back to Lake Havasu city in Arizona. There are not many choices for roads out here in the desert. We were heading south on 15 north of Vegas around 4 or 5 pm when a major dust storm came up. We did slow down eventually because visibility was greatly reduced. There were 2 accidents on 515 on the way home. It was 113 degrees when I got home in Lake Havasu. When we went to Wyoming on Monday last week we drove through Vegas and St. George, Utah with little traffic and no accidents. I guess weekends are the worst.
