2015 issues with trailer hitch electrical

Ok, so I searched and didn't find this specific issue. I have a 2015 SR5. Bought a tow dolly for my RV to tow my wifes car and brought it home with the SR5. Plugged it in and had now power to the dolly's lights. Switched out to the sellers vehicle and it worked fine. We used a tester on the SR5 and found no power at the connecter. Got home and as I backed the dolly up the driveway with the liftgate up to see, noticed all the lights working, perfectly. Closed the liftgate, lights went out. Then couldn't get them to come back on. Checked the dolly hooked up to RV and again, the tow dolly was fine. Anyone else experienced a wiring issue? I might add, I did nothing to the wiring. It's all factory.

Are you sure you're getting a good connection when you plug the trailer into the 4Runner? The 7 pin connection can be hard to get at so maybe you aren't plugging it in all the way. The lid should lock the connector in place.

If you have a multimeter (or even a test light) you can check the socket to make sure you're getting power at each of the pins as appropriate. The pin out diagram is on the socket lid.
