2015 TEP or TRD Pro?

I was torn with this same decision as well. I decided on a TEP for a few reasons. First, I wanted a new 4runner ASAP. It will be replacing my not-so-old F150 that is starting to have some issues so, again, ASAP. Nobody actually knows when the TRD PRO will be truely available to buy or if I could even get my hands on a white or black one at all. The TRD PRO is a limited production model so there WILL be a markup at the dealers. The added markup, to me, is wasted mod money and I do plan on modding it a little. Most, if not all, of the TRD PRO items will be available at the parts counter.

The TRD PRO is a sweet ride though. If you have the budget and can wait, I say go for it. Unfortunately, I can't wait and I needed to stick to a budget. It's bad enough I've had to wait for my TE but it should be here anyday now.

I'm not complaining about anything. I wasn't aware that the system worked as such. But I do now :D

In any event, a lot of guys are saying they got options they wanted. I've heard that either Toyota or dealerships are ordering standardized SR5s and TEs. For example all the features were the same on the 5 or 6 TEs at my local dealership while the only difference was an option for a sliding rear deck or no sliding rear deck. Everything else was the same. So guys with older models, I'm not sure the same options are still available. There's one guy on here having issues ordering a white TE with KDSS because his dealership isn't ordering them.
 
Go with TEP

Faced exact same issue a few months ago, and frankly the one thing that you can't get on the TRD is the sunroof, which I love having. Everything else can be added.
 
I have just completed 635 miles on my TRD Pro. I also had a 2014 Trail Edition Premium. Since cost is nota factor for me. Not because I am wealthy. I work for Toyota. I have a car perk/benefit. Here are my thoughts on the two. The TEP and all 4x4 4runners are very competent machines. I am not Ivan Stewart by any means and these vehicles do more than I am comfortable doing. I liked the TEP and it had great features and a sunroof. I live in SoCal and did not use it all that much. When you are in the wilderness it is great to lookup and see the trees. I can still do so but run the risk of some facial pin stripping.

What I like about the TRD Pro. It is a good balance of competent off road and daily driver. Only on the trail do other 4Runner owners give me props. No one cares of the rarity and non 4Runner enthusiast think it is just another SUV. What I love this the suspension it is soft an subtle and rides almost as good as a GX470. I owned one of those too. It is great balance of a daily driver and desert bomber. Can you build something better. Of course you can. Can you buy something more luxurious sure get the limited or GX. Reach a balance of factory built zen with a little rarity. Probably not.

I have not seen an increase in length or girth. I have not had the urge to drink Monster or started liking neon green. I don't feel the need to install a sub and I haven't gotten laid more and I can't say less either. In the end I love my Pro. I think the one thing that is so true about this forum. Buy what you like and what will make you happy. The most prolific builds in my book [MENTION=65614]Antman[/MENTION], [MENTION=3475]warthog[/MENTION] and [MENTION=53960]itsdchz[/MENTION]. All SR5's, that these guys love.

Something to consider is resale. PRO will likely have the best, but you are paying for that up front. Mods to any of them will not recoup the money spent. If you plan on keeping it for a long time then none of this matters. TEP will probably be somewhere in the middle ground as the factory locker will be desirable at some point down the road. If you plan on massive mods then paying for a PRO is kinda silly, just mod the SR5.

This is good info from someone who has both!

If you want the ride and leveling lift of the pro just get a TEP and for $1200 put on the Bilstein 6112's at the 2nd adjustment clip w/ 5160 rears. Then you can have KDSS, Sunroof, and Pro Suspension. You can add the appearance stuff as well if it is also what you want and get OTD at roughly the same cost as the pro w/sunroof and KDSS. The only downside is losing the warranty on suspension parts even though bilstein suspension has a lifetime warranty as well.

As [MENTION=87531]FrontRange4Runner[/MENTION] and others here have said, go with your gut and get what you want, it's your ride in the end and it's going to last you a long time!
 
I like the pro grill but I undoubtedly was going to lift my 4runner so paying extra for the Pro suspension made no sense. I didn't want a sunroof because I wanted a full rack, I didn't want KDSS because well..... I just couldn't justify the extra cost knowing I was going to upgrade the suspension. Factory locker? kinda cool and warrantied... BUT I like ARB..... end of the day I went with and SR5 for MUCH less and plan on moding it to what I want. That and I don't look good in White Oakleys :dancin:
